We have to get an ultrasound because the baby is measuring big. I've only gained 11 pounds total and we're just over 6 1/2 months along. The doctor didn't say much to ease my mind. Previous ultrasounds show our estimated due date was right on. I'm nervous. Has anyone experienced this?

Absolutely! Have you ever heard of a "dry birth" where the amniotic fluid goes away? Well, in some cases, the opposite can happen...like with me! I have an abnormal amount of amniotic fluid develop when I am pregnant, which causes me to measure larger than normal. I actually measured 40 weeks at 33 weeks with one of my children...and with the rest, I measured 40 weeks easily by week 36. Too much fluid can cause problems such as pre-term labor...so it is a good thing he is jumping on this to see what is going on. I did have one of my babies born a full month premature due to this problem...but thankfully, it all worked out fine..and I am sure yours will, too.

yes...I measured big with my first for most of the pregnancy. They warned me that I may have a big baby...and I guess you could say I did. She was 9lbs 5oz and 22 inches long. I had natural birth with an epi.....and everything worked out just fine.

Then with my second I measured small...go figure and she was 7lbs 12 oz....no epi! YAY!

Anyways..just have your doc stay ontop of it....

Yup I am right now, i am measuring over 2cm big, but we know my due date and the orignial ultrasound confirmed it.

this has never made me nervous because I measured big with my first and did not know I should worry. Cj was8 1/2 pounds and 21 inches and I am guessing this time I am going bigger.

Don't worry about it, if there is a concern the doctor will tell you or if you are still nervous ask at your next appt.

I measured big with my DS and had an ultrasound to check to make sure baby wasn't too big. The U/S results were normal and DS was 8lbs 12 oz, 21" long. I gained 50lbs both pregnancies, DD was only 7lbs 15oz, a repeat c-section 9 days before her EDD.

I am measuring 1 week bigger but I think it is due to the little one using my ribs as a jungle gym

I measured big with my first pregancy, it was no big deal. My first child was really big though and they let me go two weeks over my due date, so she was one ounce short of 10 pounds! (eppidural went to my legs, but I felt everything else!!!) Didn't have a little baby! My second was measuring small- she was born two weeks early and weighed 6 lbs 1 oz.

The Ultrasound turned out just fine. Thank you all for easing my mind. Due date is right on and he's just a little big with a little extra fluid but still with in the normal range.

I was drinking exactly the amount of water prescribed on the information sheet they gave me at my first appointment plus extra in other liquids. My doctor was very surprised. It turns out they put a really high amount (96 oz) on there as a goal, not actually thinking someone would literally drink that much. It could be why there was a little extra swimming room for baby.
