I am sorry but no matter how hard you try to budget for a family something always comes up that was not in the plans. Like twins, complicatons, etc. I think the only thing that you can do it just do it and take what ever comes as best you can.

Well we didn't actually plan financially or otherwise for this pregnancy, can you say surprise? lol But since then we've been trying to get bills paid off, make any major purchases, and save some money before I quit working.

I agree with the other ladies, you can't wait for the "perfect" time because really no time is perfect.

My response is very similar to MandaRenee's. We didn't plan the pregnancy, so we didn't have time to plan financially. However, we quickly realized that we needed to re-evaluate the budget and pay off as much as possible before going to one income. (I am an intern working on my MBA, but my internship ends in August.) We've managed to pay off the credit cards, start a money market savings fund, make some home improvements, and my car will be paid off by the time the baby arrives in August. We also greatly reduced our food budget and evaluated every single bill so that we can ensure that we can pay the bills when the baby comes and have something left over for emergencies.

I was once told that if you wait until you are financially ready to have kids...you will never have kids.

We didn't "plan" financially for Hannah. The only thing we looked at was the timing to make sure I had enough time built up to take the time off after delivering.

Abby was a surprise. We weren't financially stable then either but what are you going to do?? You can't keep them in there until you're ready.

She was planned, but we didn't plan for her finacially. We knew that we would find a way to make everything work. With all the great resources at Mommysavers, we made it work! We tried to live off of Dh's salary as much as possible and put mine in savings. We had a nice little egg once the baby was ready to arrive. We also bought all the necessities before she came (diapers, wipes) so we wouldn't have to buy this when I wasn't being paid.

I checked everything at work and I would still get paid some if I was put on bed rest and for 6 weeks after the birth. What I didn't plan on was Kaylee being 2 weeks late and having no medical complications, therefore I took a week off unpaid because I was physically and mentally uncomfortable at work (you can only listen to "When are you going to get induced" and explain you want to do it natural so many times). I ended up taking 6 extra weeks unpaid and it all worked out great!
