Has anyone made a belly cast? If so, did you use a kit or did you make it yourself?

I really want to make a belly cast and I have seen the kits online and also have the directions to make one in a birth book that I have. But I wonder if it is cheaper one way or the other. And if it is insanely easier to use a kit.

I did a couple of belly casts. It is definitely necessary to have a second person help you out, lol!
I went into a medical supply store and asked for "plaster rolls", the kind they used to use for making casts. I can't recall what the product name is but that describes it pretty well. It looks like really rough gauze rolled up. Anyways, all you need to do is swab yourself down with vaseline wherever you are doing the cast, then cut the gauze into strips (some 4", some 8", some larger or smaller depending on the area). Then you dip them in water, slide off the excess water and smooth onto your belly. Repeat and make sure you overlap and layer lots. I'm sure you already have these instructions so I guess in answer to your questions, it is much cheaper to buy the plaster rolls yourself as that is basically all you really need. To finish it, you may want to get some spackle and a glaze. HTH!
