I pooped - a lot. I pushed a lot on the toliet, and got most of it out of the way there, but I think I did it some more. DD was posterior until the very end, so I am sure I had some extra pressure there. No one made a big deal about it - and I was with my two SILs!!! But they are both involved in birthing, so I figured they had all seen it before. It's natural and at the moment - it will be the last thing on your mind and you will get over it VERY quickly! A little poop is worth the bundle of joy you get to hold and avoiding a major surgery to me!

Pooping during delivery isn't anything you should give a moment of thought.
Ditto! ITA!

There is no reason to be embaressed. It can't be any worse than a baby/ and placenta coming out of your body.
My hubby told me I did the poo-poo, but I did not even know until I asked him. He was not even going to tell me.

I'm new here, but what better way to join the group than to talk about poo?

I had an enema as soon as I got to the hospital (never had one before, eh, not too bad), and then I labored a good deal on the toilet (and pooed some then too). When I was walking back to the bed to get back on the monitor I said "oh, my, I have to poo - I'm going to poop on the floor!" my doula and nurses got very excited and got me into pushing position. I'm nearly certain I either pooped right then or else once I started pushing, but I don't know for sure. Either way, no one mentioned it and I really didn't/don't care. I got the baby out - and we all FINALLY got to rest.

Ugh, now I'm reliving the whole magical day again - this is going to make me cry! It was the most AMAZING 16 hours (or was it 20?) of my entire life. I've never loved my husband more. Is there a thread on here to reminisce about birthing babies on this board?

My girlfriend fretted over this for the longest time. I was in the delivery room with her until she had to go in for an emergency c-section. She had pushed for some time. She kept telling me that she felt like she had pooped but her mil and mom kept telling her no no you didn't. She must have talked about it for about six months. Finally i said...."Do you really want to know the honest truth?"......she was quiet for a minute and then told me she did want to know. I told her YES you pooped now forget about it. The nurse was prepared there was a little catch all at the bottom of the table.....the doctors and nurses expect it to happen. My friend said...Thank you so much for being honest with me....I just really wanted to know. I said why didn't you just ask me to tell you. The reason i didn't tell her before was because she seemed to like the answer that she hadn't.

Now for me.....i know it happend with my first but i swear by the time i got to the hospital with my second i was all cleared out. I had been having horrible cramps and pushing at home and was on the toilet for about an hour. Needless to say as soon as i got to the hospital Wyatt was born. Ten minutes to be exact.

Funny post. I don't know if I did or not either. I'm going to have to ask my dh. I too was in epidural heaven so there's no telling what I did. I had two 10# babies, so I certainly was pushing hard enough to poop.

I somehow missed this while reading all the books. I never did with dd#1. I actually had very soft stools before I delivered, thankfully. I did with dd#2 and the nurse could tell I was woried but she said it's ok, just push, but I was really nervous about doing it again. Doc never said a thing he just said to go ahead and push. dd#3 all good.
