My doctor called today, and I was 4 itsy points over the cut ff for that sugar tet, so now I have to go in for the longer one. And they said there's a special 3 day diet and exercise thing have to follow beforehand. I'm scheduled for ne thursday, and will be picking upthe instructions tomorrow, meantime, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they meant by special diet? I'm a bit anxious a worried. I hate needes, and blood. There's nothing worse than that, and the htought of sitting there for 4 hours getting my blood drawn several times is horrible. Thank heavens I saved my new Harry Potter book for this, just in case.

I have been lucky and never had to do the longer test. So, I have no idea what the special diet is. But, I do want you to stay positive and keep thinking that this is best for baby. I will keep you in my prayers..especially that you get a lab technician that draws blood so gentle that you won't even know she is doing it! Hang in there and don't stress about it too much.

For both my pregnancies I had to do the longer test. I never had to do a special diet for the tests. Both times it turned out all right.

They draw blood once you get there and then they make you drink a big glass of some kind of juice. Then you have to sit and do nothing and they draw blood every hour for 3 hours. Bringing a good book is a very good idea!!

It's not very fun but it's no big deal, concentrate on your reading.

Good luck to you

For mine, it was just they wanted you eat alot of carbs to see how you react to the glucose test. It was actually more than what I normally ate so I didn't eat everything they suggested. Mine turned out fine for both my pregnancies..

Good luck and let us know what the results are next Thursday....

For my last pregnancy I had to take the long test - I had to fast 12 hours before the test. It wasn't so bad - just bring something to eat when you are finished. I was very light headed.

Hmmm..I had to do this test for both my kids - failed the short test, but passed the 3 hr. No special diet, just had to fast for 12 hrs. before.

Dummy me - they sprung the short test on me at one appt. I had had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and CHOCOLATE milk for lunch just before the appt.- choc. helped w/nausea. Of course my #s would be high - but they'd take no excuses.

Either way, I'm sure it won't be hard to follow. The hanging around the lab is the hardest part - take a good book. They let me lay down, as they weren't too busy.

I just had my 1 hour this morning. They had said not to eat anything after midnight the night before. I wish I had taken some cracker to eat afterwards. The tech did tell me that if I fail this one, then I'll have to go in for a 3-hour test. With my first two, I only had to do the 1-hour and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one as well.

I don't remember a special diet, but i do remember fasting. I also remember i had to pee in a cup periodically thru that 3 hour test also. I am not sure if they were looking for sugar or protein in my urine or what? I can out fine with the 3 hour test but failed the short test, yes, definitely bring a book to read!

Don't worry about it I had the test and had no diabetes. I try my best not to go to crazy with carbs because diabetes runs on both sides of my family.
