I was lucky - my water had to be broken by the nurses w/my first (imagine my terror when I saw that sharp thing coming toward me!!) and with my 2nd, it happened on the bathroom floor as I was going to use the bathroom at 6:15 am.

But I've heard stories about it happening in the car, in the store, etc.

Any stories?

Make someone's heart smile today.

With my first my water broke at home so it wasn't embarassing, but quite funny acctually. I had been contracting since really early that morning, and so about 8:00 I called my midwife and told her. She said to go on a short walk, take it easy and let my body rest. So I layed in bed for a while, got up and ready, we went on a walk, got back home and dh made some lunch. He went downstairs to watch a little TV while he ate, and I decided I wasn't hungry and went to lay on the couch. Well I twisted to get up, because I had to pee, and felt the pop. I yelled downstairs "honey, I think my water just broke", and then I hear the clanking of the spoon and the bowl and he comes running up the stairs with this whide eyed look! It was hillarious, I think he thought that mean the baby was coming RIGHT THEN!

With #2 they broke my water to get things moving, so nothing embarassing.

Hopefully it remains that way with this one. It's one of my biggest fears to have it happen in public somewhere.

This didn't happen to me, it was my sister in law (my brothers wife). Three years ago she was about 8 1/2 months along and in a maternity clothing show at mall of America. She was walking down the "runway" area and her water broke. Luckily she got to keep the outfit that she was "modeling" She was very self-consious back then. I am sure no one else really even noticed (other than the look on my SIL's face) that anything had happened. She had to call my DH's brother and his wife to come and pick her up, because my brother was gone on buisness!

With my first the water was broke by the nurse. The second, I had just got done having a huge bacon burger at my Mom's house. I was in the kitchen and I felt a funny tug down there.... I went and plopped myself on the chair and bammm. I said, honey my water broke and he said how do you know....I stood up and was leaking everywhere. Good thing my Mom's chair was leather....

All 7 times my water broke in the hospital right before baby was delivered.

I'm glad to see so many stories of it not happening out in public. Of course my luck it will happen somewhere embarassing but I suppose its not the most embarassing thing to have happen to you! lol

With my first I was getting bask into bed after an early morning trip to pee and it gushed. The second I was at toysRus and I went to the bathroom and walked out and it was just a steady leak that got stronger and stronger, I thought I had peed myself at first.

well with my first my water broke when I taking a bath!! but I was trickling the rest of hte time! this was at 5am (woke up and was crampin up soo bad I needed the bath to relieve them!! no contractions till I got to the hosptial 2 hours later!!

and younest well I woke up and went potty and came back to bed and my water broke right by the bed but again no contractions till i got ot the hosp!! and even after that they had to make them come

Mine was broken at the hospital. but my sister 2 out of 3 happened at home her first she got up to go pee and after she stood up it broke funny her tho thought that she didn't finish peeing sat back down then when getting back in bed it all gushed.....LOL then her 3rd child was early and she was at the kitchen sink in the am doing breakfast dishes when it broke.

My water broke at home with my 3 youngest. All preterm, all in the middle of the night, and all right after a huge thunderstorm! DS2 and DS3 are both 36 weekers and DS4 is a 33 weeker, but my water broke with him at 30 weeks!

There are more than 40 different types of congenital heart defects. Little is known about the cause of most of them. There is no known prevention or cure for any of them.
