I told people early around 8 weeks, because believe it or not I was already showing. This happened with both of my kids. I work in a hospital, so I would have told them early anyway so that I am exposed to less. I would try to wait until 20 weeks, so that the risk of miscarriage is much lower, but I would tell immediate family earlier as well as people in the workplace if it affects your job (such as heavy lifting).

With my first, I wore a tank top that said "Baby in Belly" under my sweater and took my sweater off to show them my tank top.

With my second, I dressed my son in a shirt with his name on it that said "I am going to be a big brother".

I told my husband and everyone the same way, but just told my husband first!

I was going out of town on the day that I tested and my DH was at work. I didn't call him at work because he works with his family and his desk is in an open area, so I left the three positive tests on the back of the toilet with a note that said "Call me... Daddy".

We ended up telling our families during Christmas festivities and I was about 6 or 7 weeks along at that point. We waited to tell people that we work with until I had reached the second trimester. We reasoned that it would be easier to talk to family about a miscarriage than to have to repeatedly tell co-workers.

We told people at about 8 weeks. We told my hubby's parents first, since they live closest to us and our son was the first grandbaby on my DH's side of the family. I baked bars and wrote on a paper plate ~'Grandma, bake with me sometime' and then put the bars on top of the plate. We took the bars to her work, and when she grabbed the first bar to eat, she saw there was writing on the plate. With his dad, we bought a small tackle box and wrote a note in it saying~'Grandpa, take me fishing sometime.' Needless to say, they were both crying when they found out why we were baking and buying tackle for them!

My sister knew the morning of taking my test but we didn't tell everyone until after my first doctor appt. I think if you think there is any chance of a complication I would wait till around 13 weeks. As my dr stated it I was at the perfect age/health so there was very little risks. Next time around we will be waiting the 13 weeks for some of the family.

We didn't find out with DS until I was 12 weeks along (though I had been home testing for numerous weeks b'c I had thought I was pregnant). I took the test at our apartment before work, then went back to bed and told DH he had to read the results (I was sick of looking at negatives). After about 10 minutes of laying there awake (lol) I couldn't stand it and I went into the bathroom where DH's mouth was laying on the floor.. Squealing and jumping up and down and crying and hugging.. yea it was exciting. We called off work (both worked at the same place, same shifts - they were probably ticked lol), DH grabbed a hamburger bun from the kitchen and we raced over to his parents' house. His mom had just pulled something out of the oven a few minutes prior; DH threw the bun into the oven and told his mom maybe she should check the oven b'c he smelled something in it. (a toasting roll! lol) She looked at it, looked at it again and then it clicked and she started screaming and getting all excited. lol Then we called my parents.

In my sister's case (5 years prior to me), she had married quickly (her DH went overseas a week after they wed), and a month after she got married, my mom and I were on the phone when someone knocked at her door. It was a HUGE bouquet of flowers. She got them from the delivery person and said "the card says 'Mr. & Mrs.' on it," to which I said "Those aren't from Dad - he just writes your name on them. They're probably from Heather - she probably sent them to tell you she's pregnant." My mom mumbled something as she opened the envelope and then started screaming and laughing.. it was quite humorous. She hung up on me to go tell my dad.

I was about 4-5 weeks when I told everyone including dh. I called dh to tell him I was leaving work early because I didn't feel good (I hadn't felt good for a week or more) and he said "that's because you're pregnant" I told him one of these days he was going to feel dumb when he said that and it was true. He had been saying that for months anytime I didn't feel good or did something silly.

Well he got me to thinking and so while I was out running errands for the office I stopped and picked up the test. So I took it as soon as I got back to the office fully expecting a negative and WHAM a big fat positive was staring me in the face. I immediately left work and went to the store and got a digital test. I drove home and took like 3 more tests, all of course positive.

So I waited for dh to come home (he was out running errands and had lunch with his dad) and finally almost 4 hours later he comes home and I'm soooo nervous. I couldn't even face him when he walked in the house, I have my back to him. He asks me if I felt better and I just shook my head no. Then he said "are there babies?" and all I could do was shake my head yes! He said "are you serious?" and then he busted out laughing. Of course I was freaked out by that and burst into tears and then he hugged me and immediately started touching the belly saying seriously? wow

He was so excited that we waited all of 5 minutes before we went down the street to tell his family and so then I called mine. His neices had the best response. We asked them if they were ready for a new cousin and they stood there and stared at us for a second then said EEEEWWWWW. I guess it dawned on them how that happens! It was the funniest thing ever.

I would have waited longer to tell but I was soooo sick they would have figured it out anyway and of course I had to tell my office why I was missing so many days!
