I was wondering what sort of night clothes you ladies used to nurse your babies. I'm getting to the point I need to find something, at least for the hospital, so I'm not pulling a tank top up from the bottom in front of everyone

Also, where did you get it? I can't find ANY nursing nighttime things except for hidious looking nightgowns that look like tents. The whole leaking thing has me concerned too... I want something that I can use a nursing pad with, but I'm really not a fan of floral print nighties with big obvious slits in the front anda bra underneath. Any suggestions?

Hey There,

I'm in the process of nursing my third baby... and to be honest, I've skipped the whole "nursing wear." When I go to bed, I always wear my nursing bra's and nursing pads. I got a tank top style at Target for about $12 a piece. It has a clip to secure the top and pulls down for use. I love them to death... and very comfortable. During the day, I will wear the same one under a shirt and if and when I need to nurse in public, I just drape a light weight blanket over me. I wrap the baby and let the rest hang down so it covers my mommy tummy too. Nursing clothes are pretty expansive so I've stayed away from them. Good luck and congrats on your new baby.

I'm nursing my second currently and I wear a nursing bra with pads with a thin soft nightgown over top. I can just pull the nightgown down in the front and unsnap the bra. It's very easy. I have to admit when my baby was first born and nursing was very frequent at night, I would just wear the bra....I got so tired of pulling the gown down. Target has the nursing tank tops. I like them but have found them to be too short.

I hated nursing gowns! It always seemed like I was laying on them and couldn't get the slits lined up right and blah, blah, blah. Anyway, at the hospital I used theere gowns one facing forward and one like a robe once I got home and ditched the nursing gowns I used those cami style tops that are popular for pj's now, the strap slips off your shoulder nicely. For leaks I just laid a towel down and then ended up getting a mattress protecter to put under the sheets.
I also recommend a nursing tank top, I got mine from Kmart, one in black, one in white, they cover your tummy if you lift up your shirt, can be worn alone or under a shirt or sweater. I still wear mine!
So, if I were to ever have a third baby, I'd pack the tank tops and a cardigan style sweater.
Best of luck to you!

I never liked the nursing wear either. I just go with a nursing sleep bra and a t-shirt at home. I do like the tanks that have the nursing bra built it, and I think it would work for what you are looking for.

I bought several nursing tees fromMotherwear's nursing pajamas make for cozy breastfeeding ease. with my first pregnancy and wore them with both kids. The clearance bin always has good deals and changes pretty often.

I wonder why I can't find nursing bras/tops at our Target's! We live in Houston, so it's not like the stores would be small... I'll have to ask someone, I guess.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to keep that in mind. Sounds like it would be ok with just like a cami to pull the strap down.

For the hospital I'm getting myself pjs with a button up pj top. That way I can just unbutton a couple buttons and be good. As for at home I'm not too worried. Its just me and dh and he's seen it all before! lol

I took my brand-spankin' new nursing shirts to the hospital. But was too tired and busy to put them on. I simply kept the hospital gowns on the whole time - they gave me one to use as a robe, so I was able to pull one off my shoulder to nurse and still maintain some modesty with the other one used as a robe - never used my own.

I found mine in maternity stores for the most part. But except for a few shirts to wear in public and tank tops at home, I found it much more comfortable to just wear my Bravado nursing bra to bed - it was soft enough and I needed the pads to stop leakage. No shirt - too binding, plus you're sweating a lot at first anyway to get rid of the water weight. I had gotten some very nice nursing outfits that I NEVER wore, including gowns and pajamas.

I either wear my nursing bra or one of the tank tops with a built-in bra. If I had to go out in public I would wear those under another shirt so I didn't have to feel exposed or simply pull the top portion down and cover up with a blanket. I bought a somewhat cute nursing nightgown but never wore it and wound up selling it instead. Just seemed like too much additional work for me.
