I bought disposable litter boxes and just threw them away. DH wouldn't do it, so that was simple solution.

You can change the litter box if you have to but make sure you use gloves, don't touch the fecal matter, and wash your hands very well after it.

However definitely have dh take the responsibility at home. Besides its one less thing to have to do.

I also second the fact that you need to be careful in the dirt outside if there is a possibility of cats using it as a litter box. This year I didn't plant a garden because there were a TON of cats around and to me it wasn't worth the risk. I'll start gardening again next year.

Thankfully we didn't have to do this since I am allergic to cats and therefore we don't have any, but I would definitely go by the books on this one if we did. My girlfriend that's pregnant has her husband do it and I think that's really smart. I think when it comes to something as precious as your child, why take the chance? Most of what the books tell you to do and warn you about during pregnancy (especially the What to Expect books) are very right and have good advice. I would also stop cleaning the litter boxes at the clinic if I were you. Just tell them you're TTC and don't want to risk it in case you get pregnant and don't find out for a week or so. JMO

I stopped doing that. Neither one of us wanted to take the chance. Why take a chance with something so precious??? The job is not worth it if you have to do that at work!!
