They will take blood, weigh you, measure you, ask the date of your last period to get the due date and make another appointment for 4 weeks later.. =)

They usually will do a ultrasound, maybe check the heartbeat and when I go to my first appointment they do a pap whether you are up for one or not. They may also set you up for a few blood tests as well. Sorry, I don't remember which ones. Overall it isn't a bad appointment depending on how uncomfortable you are with paps. I do not know of anyone who looks forward to them as they are a little uncomfortable but usually painless. They also check your blood pressure and ask you if you have any questions. Be sure to write down any you have so that you won't forget later. They also will weigh you and take a urine sample. At my OBGYN they don't see you until you are 12 weeks, so some things might be a little different.

Yep, what RMA said. Also a urine test. They didn't do the cool stuf like the ultrasound and heartbeat until later, when the baby was a little bigger at my office.
At my first visit, they also did a yearly exam, and told me next visit I'd be getting some blood drawn for tests, too.

at 8 weeks they will have you pee in a cup, weight, last period... also a pap depending on when your last one was. They will give you an est due date. Then you will go again in 4 weeks. They usually check for a heat beat at 10-13 weeks with a dopplar if they can not hear it will that then they will do an internal sonogram. HTH

The other ladies gave you great info. That is basically what happened at my 8 week appt. They did urine test, blood pressure, weight, etc.
I did want to say though that they might not do an ultrasound, it depends on the doc. They might use the doppler to check for the heartbeat but don't be surprised if they can't hear it this early on. It depends on the baby's position, your weight, the skill of the dr, and the equipment they are using. Just didn't want you to freak out if they couldn't find it.

At 8 weeks they probably won't be able to use the doppler to get a heartbeat - it's typically too early to hear it. If your office has an ultrasound machine, they may do an ultrasound. Mine does not so that's not a part of my first visit.
My doctor's office takes a urine sample, draws blood, checks weight and blood pressure, estimates a due date, and does a pap.
With my first pregnancy I didn't go in until I was 10 weeks along so we did get to hear the heartbeat at that visit. With my second, my first appointment was at 6 weeks so I didn't hear the heartbeat until my next visit, however, I was given a referral for an ultrasound at another facility to check for viability (my previous pregnancy had ended in miscarriage) so we did get to got to hear the heartbeat then.

For my first appointment they took A LOT OF BLOOD. So be ready for that if you are having morning sickness. I would be sure to eat something before hand. I wasn't ready and when they took about 7 viles of blood I about passed out! They also did a family backround asking about any diseases, deformities, etc. The doctor did an exam to check my cervix and uterus to make sure everything felt right. They did do an ultrasound but that was the kind they stick in you -- like a big dildo. Sorry, no other way to describe it!! My doctor thought it was funny to have my DH hold it for a few minutes while he left the room. Other than that, I think they took a urine sample and figured out my due date, etc.
Let us know how it goes!

Oh my gosh, the internal ultrasound was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever experienced. And yes you described it perfectly, that's what it looks like and they put a condom looking thing over it.
I had a regular ultrasound with my other two pregnancies, I had a different doctor and office that I went to.
My eight week appointments, even with different doctors, has always consisted of an exam, urine sample, ultrasound, and blood draw.
They can't get a heartbeat on the doppler until 12 weeks.
