Yay! I am so happy! I finally feel like I'm moving in the right direction and like its finally going to happen!! Here are the details:
Got to the Dr about 3pm, they called me back for my ultrasound (to check uterus and ovaries, etc) She did an external (regular) ultrasound and then the internal one. Ick. I hate that one. Anyway then when I went in to see the doctor, he said my blood work came back just fine, everything within normal limits, etc. Kinda puzzling that in 2001 I had hormones all out of whack and now the last two blood draws I've had checking hormones, everything is normal but whatever. Then he said the ultrasounds were normal too. Good news. He said it was pretty much up to me whether I wanted to do the semen analysis and the scan to check for tube blockages. We talked about it and decided that since I've been pregnant before it wasn't likely that my tubes were blocked or that DH had a low sperm count. So he said he wanted to put me on Clomid. Up until now I didn't know what it was for. He explained it to me and what I got was basically it blocks the estrogen therefore tricking your brain into thinking you need more so it over compensates and that causes the folicles (eggs) to mature and burst (ovulation) like they should anyway. Which is what we suspect I haven't been doing as often as I should. He said I take the Clomid (pill form) on days 5-9 of my cycle and then use the ovulation predictor kits to tell me when I'm ovulating and plan intercourse accordingly. He said every other day is best for conception. He said if I skip a period (like I have been) he would give me something to stilmulate my period but I'm praying I don't need that. I never thought I'd WANT to get a period. So anyway he said if I don't ovulate on this dosage he'll increase it, if I do ovulate but don't get pregnant, he'll keep it the same. He said if I'm not pregnant in another year, he'll have to send me to a specialist. From the sound of it, I'm SO glad I started out going to him because he said an actual specialist procedures can not only be costly, but much more frequent, and much more intense which I'm not ready for. The only thing that's sort of a drawback is the rate of twins with Clomid is 10%. That doesn't sound like a whole lot until he said that 1 in every 10 women he puts on Clomid has twins! He said he had just finished checking one lady that was having twins from being on Clomid! I'm not all that worried, but its something I hadn't really thought about. SO...wish me luck and I hope this helps anyone else who's in the process of trying!!!

I've been waiting to hear more news from you!! First of all, I totally appreciate your descriptions of your doctor visits. Personally, it lets me know what could happen when we do go to the doctor - and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is learning from your posts. So please continue to keep us posted. Of course, post whatever you feel comfortable posting! Lord knows there are things that happen in an exam that you don't want the whole internet to know about!!
Also wanted you to know that my prayers continue for you, Kristen!!

Thanks Rachel!! I'm praying for you too! I just imagine myself in your shoes having not been to the doctor yet and I know I'd want to know everything!! So I'm trying to be helpful.
I'm actually thinking of copying and pasting this into my blog on here to keep a journal of the whole process. I think I might just do that...
Not sure if you got the edited post, I went back and put a few things in there that I forgot like the twins thing!! I also forgot to mention that he was going to write me a prescription for pre-natals but he forgot and I forgot to ask him for them before I left. I'll have to call tomorrow. I think anyone who's actively trying to get pregnant should take them.

I too wish you good luck, 10% is a small chance. I admit I would not have minded a set of twins (I took it too) only because dh is a twin
Not to be negative but it would not hurt for your dh to have a semen analyisis, one of the parents I sit for were trying to conceive recently and they have 1 anyway he had the test and he did have a low count, they basicaly told her they got very lucky. not trying to bring you down really! Also keep in mind she is 41 he is 47 which could very well make the difference.

Yeah, the reason we decided not to right now is basically because he has had one done before. It was before we met when he went in for an STD screening and they did a sperm count they told him they had good news and bad news. The good news was he didn't have anything but the bad news was his sperm count was very high so he better be careful because he was very fertile. That was about 6-7 years ago and since he's still pretty young (27) I'm not too worried about it. If we still have problems after the clomid though we'll have his levels run again. Hopefully these meds will do the trick and we'll never have to worry about it again!!

Kristen,
This is so helpful to me! DH and I have been contemplating the whole fertility meds route, but there isn't as much information about secondary infertility. It's also still in the air for us because on one hand, we feel that God will pick the right time for our next baby to be conceived/born, and on the other hand, we both desperately want another child and I just haven't gotten pregnant after trying for 2 years. (We conceived DS within 5 months of getting married.) Your posts really open up some possibilities and bring a human side to the procedure. Thanks

Awww! Reading your reply gave me goosebumps and made me a little teary! I'm glad my posts are helpful! I'm just so excited about it I can't help but share and since I'm also very detail oriented I can't help but type out every tidbit of information!! We're both pretty much in the same boat! We conceived DS after 8 months of being together. We weren't trying but not using protection because I was told I needed help to get pregnant! I believe the doctors exact words were: "When you're ready to get pregnant, come see me and I'll recommend you to a fertility specialist" So needless to say DS was a surprise, but we were very happy about it! Anyway, yes, current doc says we have secondary infertility and that its common, but not as widely discussed and all that as primary infertility.
Let me just say we could have a mirror on our lives!! DH and I had the EXACT same conversations about waiting or not. The thing is, we started when DS was already 2 so we were wanting to get pregnant right then. Now two years later, we're just now getting meds. We kept going back and forth, back and forth forever about it. DH wanted to wait, I wanted it to happen NOW so I could get on the meds, get pregnant, have our 2.5 kids (or whatever the national average is these days) and be done with it!
So anyway, the long and short of it all is that I wish we had just gone to the doctor in the beginning. It would have made life so much easier because its really not a big deal at all. Couple of blood tests (one draw), an exam, an ultrasound and boom, got the meds and we're ready to go. All that in less than two weeks because I went to a regular OB/GYN to start with. It was great! Clomid is very low side effects and he's starting me on the lowest dosage. Of course the decision is totally up to you and your DH, but all visits & the prescription were covered by our insurance and if I were you, I would totally make the appointment.
Just so you know, I posted this on here instead of PM-ing you so that anyone else going through the same thing could get my opinion on it. Hope that's ok!
Good luck and Baby Dust to you!! I'm praying you are blessed with #2 very soon!!!
