As a parent of an only, I have to say, the decision is not easy. For us, it was a little more out of our hands than most people, but the yearning was still there. Now I think I am at peace with things being this way and I am actually able to see so many benefits to having only one. DS is the most wonderful gift we could have, and I do not feel incomplete without another!

Yes, me! But it's now too late for us. We had ds when I was 37. We had one m/c before and after him. We decided to stop, I'd had enough heartbreak with the m/c's. Then a year later we tried again - and found out I was going through premature menopause. I'm 42 and am 99.9% sure I can't conceive again.

I've accepted it. I've told ds, It's you, me, daddy and kitty, that is our family! He's expressed the desire for siblings, but I always matter of factly go back to 'you, me, daddy and kitty!' and tell him some families have one baby, some have 10, whatever God wants. I always end up with "And aren't we glad that You're the one God sent to us?!"

So the moral of the story is...if you are really done, then you're done. But if you think you might not be done, time might be ticking quicker than you think! Don't wait forever or it may be too late!

I thought I only wanted one for a long time. My son made me feel complete as a parent. Then he turned 4 and I turned 34 and that had old "advanced maternal age" talk with my OB at my annual appointment. She said if you are going to do it you might want to think about sooner than later. My dh had been wanting another for about a year so I decided what the heck, we will try for 3 months and that will mean I will still be 34 (by the skin of my teeth) when it is born. If it is meant to be it will happen, if not I am happy with one. Well, I got pregnant the first try and now have a 1 year old son. My oldest adores him - they are 5 years apart - and he has made us all so very happy. And now I really AM done!
