My little man is two months old and i am breastfeeding him. DH and I have a military ball on the 13th, so mil is babysitting. I have been saving breast milk and have plenty saved up. The problem is that he will not take a bottle. I have tried holding him against my skin to give it to him.and still nothing. Any suggestions on nipples or anything????

My best advice is for you to not offer him the bottle! Let your DH or someone else give it to him and you leave the room. The baby can smell you and knows he gets food from you so you cant be anywhere around during feeding time. try all kinds of bottles or what ever but trust me he will not take a bottle from you at first. Good luck I know its a pain.

I had success using the Playtex (with the drop-ins) bottles and nipples when I had to supplement or use a bottle with breastmilk. You might also want to have DH give him the bottle, or anyone beside yourself, as he may be sensing you and wondering why you aren't giving him the real deal. Good luck! ETA, we must have posted at the same time! Yeah, that!

I agree. Baby will not take a bottle from you. Leave, and have someone else give it to him as a trial - it may take a couple of times for him to figure how he can stop his hunger. My dd never took a bottle, and I tried all kinds (including the soft one shaped like a breast). We started w/ a sippy cup w/no stopper and a regular cup. Other than that, I had to be chained to her. Mooo.

I agree with the other ladies--you have to leave the room. I used the Pur nipples--that's what the lactation consultant said was one of the better ones as far as being designed like a real nipple. Good luck. I know it's frustrating. My oldest was like that when she was a baby. When she was hungry enough and realized she wasn't going to get milk from me she took it from the bottle.

There are some good tips here. Here are some more tips that you might try. Try feeding him with a medicine dropper or medicine cup (the kind that comes with Tylenol, etc.). Some BF babies like to feel skin when they eat. Be sure the breastmilk is warm (not hot), just like it would be from you. Feed baby the last thing before you leave, too. That way, if he won't eat while you are gone, he won't be missing as many feedings. HTH and have fun at the ball!
