I am 12 weeks pregnant and went to the dr on Friday and took the blood glucose test. My dr said that she wanted it to be in the 135 range and it was 189!!! She sent me to do a fasting blood sugar test the next day but I haven't heard back from her yet regarding the results.

What can I expect if my blood sugar level stays at 189?? What are the risks or complications?? What can I do about it.....or is there anything I can do???

When I had both my kids, my blood sugar came back high.. in fact, with dd it was close to 200.

When I took the fasting test, both times, it came back normal.. in the normal range. I started watching more what I ate after that even though it came back normal. I also started walking more for exercise.

I'm sure if your blood sugar is still high, first, your doctor would have called by now and the doc will probably give you a list of foods you should eat and foods to stay away from. If you don't already, maybe start walking in the evenings as much as you can. HTH

Is there a reason that they did this test at 12 wks? I have only heard of doing it around 22-26 wks...

I was wondering the same thing. I just had mine done last week at 29 weeks. The normal is between 22-28 weeks for my doctor.

I don't know why she had me do the test. Might it have something to do with my weight???
I weigh 219 lbs....I wonder if that may be why.

The dr has told me that I need to watch my weight very closely as she only wants me to gain 10-15 lbs. So far so good. I haven't gained any weight in the last 2 months. I have remained at the exact same weight.

I had the test done MANY times and WAY early with some of my pregnancies *the first 2* because they kept finding sugar spilled into my urine when they did the urine tests... so they'd do the 'big test' and it'd be 'ok'

with my last, i was insulin dependent diabetic by the time they found out i was pregnant *cause i was so borderline*

anyway,, if there was sugar or ketones in a urine sample, that'd lead them to do it early too

Drink tons of water and make sure you go for a 10 minute walk immediately after meals.

Water is the key!
