Hi, how many pounds did your baby gain in his/her one month or two months checkup. My son is 5 weeks old and I was wondering how many pounds they gain during that time. Thanks

As a breastfeeding consultant, I look for weight gain in a newborn to be between 4 and 6 ounces per week from the baby's LOWEST weight (not birth weight). We expect about the same from formula fed babies (though it is usually on the upper end). I take into account whether baby was premature, small framed, short or long in length and the parents' builds.

So, if I were checking a 5-week-old, I would expect baby to have gained between 20 ounces (1 lb. 8 oz.) and 30 ounces (1 lb. 14 oz.).

Remember that most doctors offer free weight checks for little ones (WIC, the public health dept., etc. do, too). All you usually need to do, is walk in and ask for a weight check.

My son is a chunk. lol. 90-95th Percentile all the time. I don't remember how much he weighed. I cant find his memory box either! Ugh! I hope I didnt lose it. It might be in indiana but I swear I brought it to Florida! They give little stickers at his check ups. I dunno if they gave him one that time or not. Now I am worried that his box isn't here and they didnt give him a sticker!

I found it. My mom was right there was a packed suitcase in my sons closet although there wasnt any bowls in there! So I will have to buy some more cause they have disappeared somewhere! There was a sticker too! Woo! He was 7 pounds 12 ounces at birth and at his 4 week check up he was 10 pounds 2 ounces. So He gained 2 pounds 4 ounces I think I suck at math. He was born at 37 weeks I can only imagine how much he would of weighed at birth if I didnt have to have a c-section.

Both my boys were average weight at birth but gained weight very fast after birth.

#1 ... 6 lbs 14 oz at birth - 10 lbs at 4 weeks (essentially 3 lbs in a month)
#2 ... 7 lbs 1 oz at birth - 11 lbs at 4 weeks (essentially 4 lbs in a month)

I'm pretty sure their weight gain was a little bit of a surprise to the doctor considering that I was breastfeeding exclusively. Since it happened the same way with both boys I figure that's just how my kids grow (or that it has something to do with my breastmilk).

Babies gain weight at different rates. As long as the infant is gaining some weight, seems content, and is having wet diapers, I wouldn't worry too much.

Son # 1: 11 lb at birth, 14 lb 8 oz at 1 month and
Son # 2 : 9 lb 10 oz at birth, 13 lb 10 oz at 1 month old.

Like they said above, I wouldn't worry about it as long as the baby is eating and has wet diapers.
