These are stuff that saved my life:

1) Swaddle me - the ones with velcro - my DD would sleep through the night from 6 weeks.

2) The Ultimate Crib Sheet from BRU - you will not have the trouble of lifting your crib mattress to change the sheet. This is just awesome.

3) Bouncer - you really need this - the Baby Papasan Infant Seat is good, but the bouncer is better. Use the bouncer even for feedings.

4) I bought the Graco Packn'Play(Bermuda) with Changing Station - and skipped the changing table.

5) Read the Baby Bargains book - but don't let it overrun ur budget.

Enjoy ur baby!

Car seat - I like the travel system (car seat/stroller)

Highchair or reclining booster seat - I used a highchair with #1, but the reclining booster seat with #2 & #3. It's about half the price and works just fine (as long as you have the extra chair at the table)

Bedding - either a set or go cheaper & just get a bedskirt, sheets & bumper pad

Spit rags - I like to use the cloth diapers, they're thicker than most "spit rags"

Diaper bag - you may get one free from the hospital, but you may want a nicer one - think long and hard though - do you want a regular bag, messanger bag, backpack, or just a really big purse ?? I'm getting by with a smaller bag now since I'm nursing, but once the baby needs food I'll have to move up to my bigger one.

Sling/Baby carrier - there are directions online to make your own sling if you have a sewing machine. (You can also make your own nursing cover-up if you plan on brest feeding - although a blanket works fine too)

And of course the basics...
Diapers
Wipes
Pacifiers
Bibs
Bottles & formula
- if formula feeding
Receiving Blankets - I used a TON of these
Breast Pump - if nursing (although not a necessity - I've never used one)

I could go on and on...

Oh, and another tip - think about who you're inviting to the shower... if they're all your broke friends, make sure you have A LOT of little (cheaper) items! I always hated buying 1 tiny little $20 gift, I'd rather put together a basket full of cheaper things. If you're inviting people who are more likely to spend big money - make sure you've got some good options for them too!

The one thing I recommend is called a sleep sheep or a sleep sheep on the go. I have the on the go one. It makes rain noises river noises ocean noises and whale noises (which i find scary but my son loved he would always switch it even wen he was quite small) It really helps the baby go to sleep. It is good for adults too. lol. It would put me to sleep. It has 23 and 45 mins intervals. I love it. Its by Cloud-b you can either get it on the website or some stores have them I would reccommend trying to find it at a department store if possible because the maternity bouquites can be expensive. If not you can always buy it online. I recommend this to anyone even if you don't get it as a gift you should still get it.

Don't forget to put gift cards on your registry.....some people prefer to get that and then you can purchase what you want after you get a better idea of what all you need.
