Well I finally had a chance to tell my really nice OB that the doctor who works across the hall from him that delivered my baby needed to learn some bed side manner and that I was really upset that he allowed me to get an epidural but refused to give me the 5-10 minutes for it to take affect before he broke my water. Well he agreed and sad he was young and needed to learn. When I told him about the epidural part he said, " He needs to stop doing that!" I guess he makes a habit of letting woman get an epidural and then he comes in minutes later turns it off before it can take affect and says you are having the baby now. GRRRR I don't think that other doctor should be an OB if he cannot show some compassion for the pain us women go through.

Holy Cow! You poor girl!!! I would be furious!!!!
My husband would be throwing punches for me!! (not really, but he would be mad too!)

Maybe you can write a letter of complaint to someone!?!? Especially if he "keeps doing it"! Maybe you can save the future women he attends too.

Now you have me scared! I am pregnant and have a new OB. I wish I could have the same one who delivered my son, but we moved away and I had to find a new doctor that I know nothing about!

My OB is great but him and the other 4 doctors in the medical center deliver their own patients babies during their office hours but split up evenings and weekends so they can have a life. It hurt like hell but at least I got a healthy sweetheart. He even tried to do stitches down below without a topical shot...nothing like feeling someones hand shoved all the way in you to sew up an internal tear

I get so frustrated when I hear stories like yours. I kept hearing that the epidural would stop me from feeling and pushing. Well, guess what? I exercised my kegels all during my pregnancy so I would have control (and prevent bladder issues later). I was VERY numb - overly numb from the epidural, yet, because I'd exercised my kegels, could still force myself to push because I still had control of my stomach muscles. I did have to work harder, yes, but since I had back labor, believe me, an epidural was needed! I know because at one point w/my first it started to wear off. With my second, they had it on continuously and my pushing went very well. It can be done, but doctors need to educate their patients. With my first, they whisked him off - I didn't even know I could ask to have him. With my second, I got to hold and nurse her while they took their grand old time stitching the tear - I felt nothing but happiness with my new baby.

The worst part was that I was having back labor I hardly felt it in the front...my little one also came out sideways so it hurt. Heck the doctor even yelled at me for screaming while I pushed...told me it would not help me or the baby
