My DGD had eczema and had lots of problems with her bottom. She would bleed sometimes and I would just hurt for her. She never had fungus infections. She always had bacterial infections. But one doctor treated her for yeast and it made it much worse.
Paper towels would make hers worse. We used wash cloths and warm water.
I hope DD's bottom gets better soon.

Yeast infection diaper rashes have distinct patches, splotches with red dots. Whenever my kids got the red tender skin, it was usually from drinking too much juice, so I tried to water it down. Keeping the skin clean and dry, airing out as much as possible helps soo much.

I know this will sound weird, but when I was babysitting one time someone told me to use Milk of Magnisa (sp) and apply it with a cotton ball, leave the diaper off for a little while after applying and in a few days it cleared up.

We just had this happen with our 2 yr. DS not too long ago. I felt so bad for him, it looked so painful! We tried every kind of rash ointment, but nothing worked, so I called the Dr. and they said it was fungal when it's patchy and raw, so they prescribed an antiobiotic and it was 10x better after the 2nd application and gone in 2 days. Good Luck

Lily used to get really bad yeasty rashes due to all the meds she was on. Many times they would bleed. Sometimes it's hard to tell if a rash is yeasty because the skin gets so excoriated!

When the rashes were bad, I would use cotton balls and mineral oil (warm water would work too....I just had the mineral oil from when Lily was in the hospital) to wipe her. Then I used Nystatin (lotrimin or monistat would work too) and Burt's Bee's diaper cream over that. Remember that with any of those anti-fungal creams, you're supposed to apply them 4 times a day for about 10 days to prevent the yeast from recurring. A little soak in the tub is good for healing the skin too.

One more really good thing for irritated bottoms is leaving them diaperless for awhile. We did this at night when Lily was really small (before she was rolling and stuff)...she had overnight nurses during that time though. I have a friend who let her 2 y/o run around diaperless after she got a nasty rash, and within a couple of weeks her dd had pottytrained herself!
