I once read a study that babies who heard classical music later did in math. Did you play classical music for your baby? I checked out cd's from the library. I remember my dd's like mozart and violin music.

Nope, I rarely listened to music. Still, rarely listen to music. It has not seemed to hurt my kids any.

I listen to what ever music I want + about once a day I pick an on demand Baby Genius episode (11 minute TV show) that has has sing along songs and I watch with my littlest DD and sing along. She loves the music and all of the close up pictures of animals and kids during the songs.

Yes, and I LOVE Baby Einstein. We get the DVDs, along w/the CDs for the car. She learns the songs. THEN, she sees Little Einsteins on regular TV and they sing along to the music, adding their own words.

So...she will hear the songs on my regular classical music, or hears pieces lifted from classical pieces (like Queen did) and will say, "Just like on Baby Einstein". I think it's great, because she learns how certain pieces can be used elsewhere. Disney is another one who uses classical pieces that she recognizes.

When they were both inside my tummy, Stevie Nicks got them rockin'.

When my children were little we listened to a lot of children's tapes like Wee Sing or Veggie Tales...upbeat cheery tunes. I did expose them a little to classical music, but more with kid friendly things like "Peter and the Wolf" (Prokofiev) and the "Magic Flute" (Mozart). My kids loved those. We also always had many musical instruments for the kids to "play" and we would sing and they would beat rhythm instruments. I do think music is good for kids.

When I was pregnant with my first, I did listen to Classical music. I liked it anyways, but listened to it more than usual because I was pregnant. He is now 7 and is very good at math. Don't know if it is connected or not. With my other two pregnancies, I didn't do it as much because, well, I had a toddler (or two) and we listened to Kindermusik music or something like that (of course, it has classical music on it, too). But, my kindergartener is the BEST of them at math.

We did a lot with music from conception. It is important in our house. All my kids have done Kindermusik from when they are babies until about 7.
