Never had one, they are a big waste!! Our diapers always went into the regular garbage which is emptied regularly. Never had a problem, even when I had 3 in diapers!

We use the Diaper Champ at our house. It takes just regular bags. We use Aldi kitchen garbage bags in it. Love it!

I have used bleach, vinegar, baking soda, you name it to get rid of the odor and I can't. It was also a huge pain to cut the bags when it was time to empty the pail. I am ready to throw them both out. I think I will resort to a regular lidded trash can with regualr trash bags. We take our trash out daily anyway.
I never had a problem with odor...when I emptied it, I would wipe it out with a paper towel and some spray cleaner and let it dry completely before closing it back up again. I did that every single time from the first time I used it and never had an odor problem. I've heard a lot of people say they hated theirs for that reason, but it wasn't an issue for me at all. I thought it was the best invention! My sister had the one that took regular kitchen bags, and boy did it stink! Who knows if she cleaned it inside or not but it was stinky. Everyone is different...

Ours was a waste of money, too. I breastfed our daughter until she was 8.5 months old and her poo wasn't stinky until I started her on formula. By that time I was in the habit of using plastic shopping bags from the store to wrap up diapers, so I gave the Diaper Genie away.

my mom bought the Diaper Genie II for me. when we were living in an apartment, it was great. we only took out the trash every few days (only 2 people adding to garbage). it kept odors out nicely, even the solid food diapers! but now that we live in a house and the garbage can is on the back porch, we take it out all the time, and i just throw the diapers out there.

I have the Diaper Genie II which doesn't wrap each diaper separately so it's actually less waste than using grocery bags. I have had no problem with odor, I think it's easy to use and we've only cleaned out the actual container once or twice. We don't take our garbage out every day and live in an apartment, so it's a bit of a walk to the dumpster.
I would not say this is a must-have - you can definitely do without it, but I like it. The refills are a bit expensive, but we've just been buying them with store credit from our baby showers, so I don't mind.

I have to agree that it was a waste of money And time for us. I stopped using it at about 8 mos., when I was downstairs once and the diaper genie was full. I just opened up the garage door and threw the dirty diaper in a bag in the garbage. Then I had a lightbulb moment and thought, "WHY am I using that thing? Chucking it in the trash was SO easy."

I am with Oregano! I loved, loved, loved mine! Never had a problem with odors (I did disinfect it about once a week with Lysol) and I used plastic bags instead of the refills so it was emptied at least every other day, which probably helped, too.

I went through two of them I liked mine so much!
