Has anyone tested positive for Group B Strep during pregnancy? This is my first pregnancy and I just came home from the doctors and they said I tested positive and would be treated during labor. Can you tell me how they treat you? Is it something that you need to worry about?

Thanks in advance for answering

I had it with five out of six of mine! No worries. They will put antibiodics through an iv for you while in labor, and that will protect you AND the baby.

I had it with my first, and thought it would always be an issue, but it didn't turn up when I had my second. It's no big deal, unless left untreated and baby contracts it, then it's a huge deal. The important thing is to remember (maybe make a written note by your bed for the nurse, just in case) to tell your attending nurses. Blessed is right: they just put an antibiotic in your IV. It's invisible to you; you don't feel it go in.

I had it with Evan, but it didn't matter since he was a c-section baby! We didn't even bother to check with the girls since it was a c section too!

I am due in 2 1/2 weeks, and had it the test done too. I must not have had it, because they never called me, but they did tell me 1 in 4 pregnancies will test positive. I wouldn't worry about it! At least you know, and they can take care of it.
Now I have A- blood type, so I have to get a Rhig shot right after the birth, for the mom, that one sounds more important.
Just remember, everything they test/treat is for your health and the babies health!

I have four and tested positive for the 3 of 4 but they still gave me antibiotics for all as precautionary. I had my fourth in March and for some reason the nurse let my first bag of antibiotics run out and didn't hang a second even though I was supposed to have two. I was induced so I had time to get both in but anyway, after my baby was born my ped said they were going to keep a close eye on the baby since i had not gotten the full meds. She then saw me and the baby the day I checked out and said that if she were to contract anything it would be, I think it was, between 2 to 4 weeks. I was supposed to watch for fever, and some other symptoms that I can't remember. Obviously, she was fine. I'm not trying to scare you but just make you aware that it is really important that you or your hubby make sure they give you enough meds while you're in labor (if you have time.)

Take care and enjoy every minute of pregnancy and delivery! I LOVED being pregnant and the AMAZING chance to have a baby. It's the most important moments in my life.

I tested positive with my 2nd pregnancy. They had it stamped all over my medical file to alert the nurses when I went into labor. Then it was just a matter of having an IV antibiotic like the previous posters had said. Just remind the nurses when your admitted.
