OMG! I laid my cranky dd down for a nap and she was crying a lot. I was on the phone with my mother and I heard a loud bang. I thought it was a gun shot or something. My dd continued to cry and I continued to talk with my mom. By the time I got off the phone she had quit crying so I waited a minute and went up to check in on her.
When I opened the door she was not in the crib. She was laying on the ground. Needless to say my heart stopped and I scooped her up and she started screaming again. I can't believe she fell out of the crib and why didn't I check on her?!?!?!?! Please tell me I'm not the only mommy who doesn't have the mattress low enough in the crib. I feel absolutley horrible. She seems okay, but I hope something doesn't come up later that is linked to this. I started crying. It's her birthday and she could've been hurt a lot worse. Thank you god!

If she's a year old she could have got out even if the mattress was at the lowest. I hope she's ok. My kids fortunately never even tried to crawl out.

I had a similar incident except she rolled off the bed. We had just nursed and fell back asleep around 6am. Well she woke back up, tugged on my hair and I ignored her, and next thing I new I heard a big thud and crying. She had rolled down the middle of the bed, between me and DH and rolled off the end. Early morning trip to the ped for me.

Your not a bad mommy, it is just one of those things. I'm glad she isn't hurt and is okay! When I took her to the ped, they said just to worry if she throws up or if the soft spot on the top of her head changes.

Don't worry, accidents happen to the best of mothers. I hope she is okay.

Something similar happened to me when DS was itty bitty. I laid him on the couch and got up to do something, and he rolled himself right off and cracked his head on the corner of the table. I was so upset at myself, but he was fine. Another time I went into DS's room in the morning to get him up and I opened the door a little bit to find it jammed by something.. Well, once I managed to sqeeze my arm in and turn on the light, I found DS sleeping behind the door - as I was opening it, I was pushing him on the floor. I don't know if he fell out of his crib (I never heard anything in the night and he never cried) or if he climbed out, but he was sleeping soundly and happily right there behind the door and it never happened again. ?? If you're really concerned, you can call the ped and tell them she fell out of her crib. They'll likely say to just monitor her and give her a dose of tylenol if she seems in a lot of pain. Don't beat yourself up over it.. Accidents happen. Now, go find a wrench and lower the crib (for your peace of mind!)..

Personally i think i would have been more concerned about hearing a gun shot!! Does that happen often around where you live? I would have been telling my mom good bye and ducking for cover!!!

LOL Jodie! Really I am crying here!

Back to the post, I did this when my nephew was little he rolled off the couch, I could have died, I was crying he was crying and he was fine. I must tell you since he was able to walk I think he has gotten himself hurt more than I did that day! We all make mistakes, don't beat yourself up! My mom says my brother could climb out of his crib starting at 9 months at the lowest setting! Some kids can climb!

it happened to my baby before. she fell off the couch, i didn't even know she could roll yet!. after a sob session, she was fine, but it scared me.

then there was this one time that was way worse when my husband stepped on her leg. she had her mouth open and face scrunched up like she was crying without sound or breathing for hat seemed like forever. i had to blow in her face to get her to take a breath. after a long time of holding her and cooing at her and everything else we could think of, she was okay. her leg was fine, no bruising or anything; i actually think she was most upset about being woken up that way.
