Okay DH and I were talking about this long and hard. You see, I turn 37 wks on the 28th Oct. I know that's consider full term. I had to go through an emergency C-section with Ds because he got stuck in the birth canal for 4 hours and yes I had GD with him. The doctor kept saying that he was 7 lbs and that he was okay to go through the birth canal and turned out that he was almost 10 lbs. With this baby coming up I'm afraid that if I push her out naturally my scar will open up (uterine rapture) due to the pressure in my pelvic area. I know its rare but I know it can happen. I also have a feeling that this baby is bigger too. The doctor keep saying that she is not big but because of my previous experience I'm afraid now to try for VBAC. My OB is very skeptical about letting this baby out around 37 wks and he wants me to make it until Nov 18 (due date) but last week I went to my appointment and I was 1/8 inches open (cervix) and I was 34 wks at that time. Since I'm getting close to giving birth my fear about going for natural labor is getting stronger. I really don't want to go through what I went through with DS when he was born. It was rushed and I felt everything when they open me up because the drugs wasn't working (something about the time and I guess it wasn't long enough or something like that) My question is for those of you who had multiple C-section and had GD do you have a choice of when do you want your baby to be out? In my opinion since I'm the one going through this whole thing and my instinct is telling me not to go natural I think I should have the right to tell the doctor when she's coming out after 37 wks of course. Due to the fact that I had GD with my first pregnancy. But my OB doesn't want to listen to me about this whole C-section thing because he really want me to try natural but like I said if she comes out too big I don't want to go through another emergency C-section with her. I'm really confuse right now and I don't know what to do about it and my due date is almost near.

I have had 3 c sections and the last 2 I chose my due date and they scheduled it went in got the baby and all was good. I was also told by my ob with my last 2 being so close 17 months to the day between both births that he really doesnt recommend trying a vbac. The risks are higher when your pregnancies are back to back like mine were. I also was very high risk but not GD. I had HTN and my son had hydronephrosis and I had him per my request at 36.5 weeks. He was small but not bad size wise and healthy other than his kidneys. I went by my doctors suggestions and told him my final say. Its up to you

yes in the sense that it is your body but quess what it isn't the DR at fault here it is the insurance... Most doctors will do deliver/induce before a certain time even if the baby is large due to lung developement. In some cases the insurance company will make the Dr payf or thoose cost if they deliver the baby too soon. Sometimes Insurance companies will even drop Dr's if there is a pattern if this happening it happened ot my friends Dr. In TX.. There is a point in time tho after a I think around 38 weeks then any time is good to scedule for the Dr. My baby was large and I was induced 5 days early and he was not going to do it any sooner. Size was just the case with me ... No GD or any other health reasons.

I think you have the right to choose your own birth plan. I had GD with my last two pregnancies and my OB each time said my due date was either the day I gave birth naturally or I would be induced. I was not allowed to go one day past. I ended up delivering early with both of them and it wasn't an issue. I think if the thought of a VBAC worries you, then it's your doctor's job to either make sure your fears are put to rest or to allow you a scheduled C-section.

Wow, I have alot to add here....so bear with me!

Let me start by saying that I have had all of my children by c-section (7 kids, 6 c-sections........a set of twins came last)...and I am pregnant again.
The first child was born by emergancy c-section, the second the Dr. wanted a VBAC, the baby was not responding well to the pitocin and was another c-section and the rest of the c-sections were because I had already had 2 c-sections. The doctor was not even worried about my old c-section scars spliting and when I was pregnant and having the twins (I had 5 previous c-sections by that time).....he said that if I felt burning in the area at anytime to let him know and we would do a blood test to see if I was rupturing. I had gestation diabetes for my 5th pregnancy and everything went fine! I did not get it with the twins pregnancy (I was tested 3 different times just to make sure).

Doctors are the ones that went to school for many years, they have seen many patients, etc. The doctor cannot just give a c-section for "no medical reason" especiallly at 37 weeks. The doctors have to do what is best for the patient, not just what the patient wants.

I understand that the last delivery was NOT a good one, but all pregnancies are different, even pregnancies in the same woman. Every pregnancy was different for me and every time it was getting close to delivery time (c-sections my doctor would deliver at 38 weeks), I had to have an anmio to make sure that the lungs were ready........why would a mother WANT to have her baby born early and just ask for medical problems?

I understand that you are scared, but truthfully the doctor is doing what is best for your baby and your body....he is not there to be told by you what is best. I hate to sound harsh, but he is just doing his job. You also stated that you had GD with your last baby.....you have said nothing about having GD THIS time.

I don't have GD with this one but all my test are borderline but what the OB said I could develop it at any time. But my instinct is telling me that this baby is way to big to deliver naturally. I know C-section is a major surgery at the same time I don't want my scar to tear while pushing her out and if its not successful I have to do what I did with DS when he was born (emergency) and with my first experience I rather be dead than going through it again. I know its sounds bad but I can't help feeling this way. Afraid of going to labor again now since I'm 35 wks I don't even have a birth plan and the OB refuse to talk about anything until 37 wks. He said its too soon. Yet my cervix is already open. I don't want to let her out early as long as after 37 wks or at 37 wks. My OB wants to give nature its chance to let the baby out when she's ready but that's kind of iffy because I have a back to back pregnancy. When I got pregnant DS was 13 months but he is confident that I'm good to go with VBAC. He's not a big fan of C-sections of what he said. So I don't know I will see. I don't like not knowing what's going to happen but what can I do I can't even discuss anything about giving birth until 37 wks. I should be mad at the doctor at the same time I believe that he is doing his job the best he can for the sake of my baby and me.

I would suggest informing yourself, via reading (books or the internet) lots and lots of testimonials, stories, and RESEARCH about VBAC's. You can most certainly have a birth plan without your Dr.'s being right there. You can write one up, and go over it with him when the time is right. Or better yet, have one written up to hand right to him at your next appt. I was just told to bring mine when I was admitted, but you know what, it never left my bag. There are certain things you just can't know ahead of time, but if you're well prepared and educated, you'll be that much better off. I would also highly recommend looking into hiring a doula. Don't be scared off by their price, most will work with you on a payment plan, or reduce their fees, if money is an issue.

Have they done an ultrasound to estimate the weight of the baby? My first was big so they did regular ultrasounds to see how big my second was getting. When he got too big they went ahead and induced even thought it was 2 1/2 wks early (and he was STILL 10# 2oz!!!) So I would think if the doc was worried about the baby being too big they could check it's size.

I never heard of 37 weeks being considered full term.. I was always told that full term was 38-40 weeks...

if that's the case, I would definitely think no good doctor would willingly and without medical cause take a baby earlier than that. When it's time,, being ,, you go into natural labor,, or baby begins to suffer distress, or your medical condition dictates it, I can't imagine a doc should be able to MAKE you deliver naturally,,, but I'm not sure what the 'laws/rights' actually would state in that instance.

I think BEFORE it's time, and BEFORE there is any medical indication of the need to deliver, that the babies 'rights' would take precedence... my thoughts
