When I was working, a co-worker and his wife named their son Magnus.

My MIL wanted to name my husband Tree. It was like she wanted to kid to be picked on. Thankfully his dad said No -- I don't think I could be married to someone named Tree.

Funny how things seem different to different people.. to me the name Hunter has always been a unisex sounding name, because the first kiddo I ever knew named Hunter,, was a girl *yearrrrrrrrs ago*

I grew up with a girl named Renna,,, I know now that that's quite unusual,, never heard it since,, but since I knew it from the time I was little,, I didn't know then that it was an unusual name

Okay, I could never name my kids some of these things because:

Ajax is a werehyena in a book
Magnus is a fairy in one book, a vampire in another
Merrick is a vampire in a book

Magnus and Merrick are from Anne Rice's vampire chronicles. I have to wonder if the parents are fans? Do they really not think others will recognize the names?

I know they could be family names or something like that but this is the connotation I always think of these names in.

One more: I gave serious thought to naming ds1 Asher. However, "Asher" is a vampire in a series of books that I read so whenever I hear the name I think of that vampire. Now that I think about it, I have heard it as a name around here a couple of times.

Oh, ds1 went to playgroup with an Axel. He was entering as we were leaving so I'd forgotten about him.

Well, my mother was going to name me Shalome. My grandmother wouldn't let her. Thank goodness! I was shy enough without a name like that. My husband said we would never had gotten together if my name was Shalome.
