A copy of Baby Bargains by Denise Fields. Get it from the library if you can.
Ds received soooooo many cute outfits, but he lived in onesies and sleepers for the first three months of his life with an occasional outfit for church or something like that. We also got more receiving blankets than we could possibly use.

The pack and play is useful as a bassinet, bed, changing table.

Probably not a necessity, but ds loved his baby gym -- a padded blanket with arches going from corner to corner with different toys suspended. He played with that thing in some form until he was over a year old. We got much more use out of that than the swing. We didn't have a bouncy seat.

If you're in a cold climate, a Baby Bundle Me by JJ Cole is an ABSOLUTE necessity!! It's the blanket that goes inside the carseat and wraps up and around the baby. The best part is that you don't have to dress the baby all up to take him/her outside -- just put a hat on and you're ready to go. Also, if the baby falls asleep in the carseat, you can just unzip the Baby Bundle Me and take the blanket down so the baby isn't so hot.

I LOVED this product!!

My list:

1. Pack'n Play (none of my kids ever had a crib or bassinet)
2. Diapers and wipes
3. Infant fingernail clippers plus a bulb syringe
4. Diaper rash cream (A&D) plus corn starch
5. Backpack - I've never owned a diaper bag
6. Some toys - mostly for me so I can do something different with the baby
7. As for bathing, we never used an infant tub or the sink. I would just get in the tub with the baby and keep the water very shallow. As baby got more wiggly sometimes I would drape a towel over my lap - which would get really wet - to create a sling for baby.
8. Swing or bouncy seat. I have to put the baby down sometimes.
9. Carseat.
10. Baby blankets. I like the cotton flannel ones.
11. Onsies. Tiny socks (which I also put on their hands). Knit caps.
12. A washer and dryer - for me and baby.
13. Bottles and bottle brush - never got the chance to breast feed.
14. A big comfy rocking chair. We have a La-Z-Boy rocker/recliner that has seen us through all our grandchildren plus DD. I have spent so much time in that chair.

I frequently would let baby 'play' on the floor by spreading out a large blanket first. Blankets got washed frequently. I used a bath towel to change the baby on. We never owned a changing table.

Later on, tiny spoons and tons of plastic cups, plates and bowls come into the house. But those can wait.
