My ten month old will not sit still for nursing, or anything. He is just a constant blur of motion. He tries to crawl, sit up, stand up, fling himself around while he's latched on and nursing. This is getting aggravating. He also sticks his hand on/into my mouth and plays with it, plays with my other boob, and worst of all, scratches and digs his little claws in anywhere he can get a grip on my skin!
Its scary when I look in the mirror after a shower and see a maze of small scratches all over my sides and boobs, from this little demon. I've tried clipping his fingernails as short as they will go, but it doesn't seem to help all that much. Any ideas on teaching nursing etiquette to a ten month old?

I have a 5 month old that is getting pretty bad about this same thing. He's like crazy eater! When he gets too wild I just take the food source away from him for a little bit. When I let him latch back on he either behaves or I take it away again. It does seem to get his attention. I hate being mean but I'm worried about losing some body parts when he gets teeth!

I also try to let him eat in a room with the least amount of distractions -- something not easily done with my husband and 4 year old running around.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I too would love to hear them. This was never an issue with my daughter! And like I said, I am seriously worried about losing a body part when he starts getting teeth!

Maybe try a nursing necklace.

Mine both nursed like that. it was frustrating, and almost made me want to quit nursing. (Actually, with my 2nd dd, it was a BIG part of why I stopped nursing at 16.5 months instead of getting to my goal of 18 months.)

My fifteen momth old also is a major mover when she nurses. She kicks her feet, plays with everything she used to scratch me alot but that has stopped. I only nurse her at home so it is not so embarssing. She has never bit me when she nursed luckily. I like the nursing necklace something for them to do. If She gets out of control or too busy i put her down
I hope to get through the winter we shall see

Thanks for the tips. I didn't know there was such a thing as a nursing necklace. I'll have to google it and find our where to get one!

Mine does exactally the same, she will actually try to turn her head to look at something while having my nipple in her mouth. In desperation I go into a room that is slightly dark and make sure I have wrapped her up. Its the only way my poor boobs dont look like I have climbed a thorn tree bare chested.
