OK, we are having our second child in March!!! Yeah!!
But, I still have a two year old who is not potty trained yet.

In my house we have two bedrooms, including the master, upstairs, and then two other bedrooms down stairs.

Right now my 2 year old sleeps in the other room up stairs next to our master bedroom. We are thinking about moving him to a down stairs bedroom so that the new baby can be closer to our bedroom. My concern is that I am a little nervous about my 2 year old being down stairs where I can't hear him if he wakes up. I would keep a baby gate at his door, but then I wonder what will happen as he gets potty trained and needs to use the restroom at night. That then brings me to my other worry about him in a room with running water at night time where I can't see/hear him!!

Am I worrying too much or should I reconsider where everyone will sleep? I also, do not want the baby to wake up my son during the night either!

What sort of sleep arrangements did you make in your homes when you had a new baby and a toddler at the same time?

I woke up this week and realized that we only have a little over 3 months left!! Nesting phase is beginning to set in!

Do you know what gender baby you are having? If it is another boy would you consider htem sharing a room so they can both be close by. I know you don't want the baby waking up your older child (totally understandable!!!) so maybe the baby could sleep in a basinette in your room until they sleep through the night. Just a thought!

We tried the bassinet thing with my son, but after night 1 he was then put into his own crib in his own room. It just worked best that way for us. Though, maybe we should reconsider with the new baby.

Oh, and we are not finding out the gender of the new baby. Not sure if we would want them in the same room even if it is a boy. At least not until the new one is sleeping through the night.

We are due in March with baby #2 also! My daughter will be 20 months old when the baby arrives. She is in a room next to our master bdrm as well. We tried to look for big girl beds for her and considered moving her to another room upstairs, but she just seems too small for a big girl bed yet (twin size). A toddler bed seems like a waste of money, as she won't be in it for long. So.....We finally decided to leave DD in the nursery next to our room in her crib until she's 24 months. The new baby (we don't know the sex) will stay in a bassinet until DD moves to her new big girl room. It turns out that when I think back, DD was in our room in the same bassinet for at least 4 months just like the new baby will be. This decision feels right, so I hope it works well.

I always put the crib in my bedroom for about the 1st year for all of my kids. Otherwise I would have the baby share with the 2 yr old. I would not be comfortable having my 2 yr old downstairs when I was upstairs.

Well, I was in somewhat of the same situtation when I was preg with DS#2. We lived in a 3 bedroom house... 2 beds downstairs and a loft upstairs. Dh and I were in the master bedrm and DS#1(little older was 4) lwas in the room next to us. So many things ran through my head when putting one child upstair. The entrance to the loft was right off of my bedrm ( it was right above the master bdrm.) but it still scared me.... ( I thought what happens if there is a fire. Who would I get first, what happens if I can't get the other child.) It really just drove me crazy. I couldn't do it. It was just to much. Like you my DS#1 NEVER Slept in a Bassinet and he is a REALLY Light sleeper. but Like all things it worked out ok. DS#2 sleep in the bassinet until our lease was up and we moved but I would have put them together if we did move. DS#1 woke up every night for the first 2 wks when the baby cried no matter what room he was in but he got use to it and always went right back to sleep. It will work out fine, don't worry about it. Good luck through your pregnancy....

My DD sleeps in our bedroom - well we all share the bedroom. I'll be honest I find it alot easier to just reach over and get her instead of getting up in the middle of the night to feed her.
Not sure when we will move her to her own room though.
