I have been thinking alot about cribs latley and the babies room. DH and I decided that with all of the saftey recalls and just to have our own that we are going to buy a crib and a changing table for the babies room. We will use a passed down rocking chair and we do not need a dresser, instead we are using plastic drawers in the bottom of the closet becuase the little dear will have a 1/2 walk in closet!!

What kind of crib do you recommend?
Covertable, styles, etc.
And where from? Is there a diffrence between Babies R Us and Walmart cribs???????
What is your opinion

I bought a very nice Jenny Lind style crib from ShopKo before my 10 yr old was born. We paid $100 for it. We used it for my 4 boys and my grandson. So I think it was sturdy quality and we definitely got our money's worth.

Personally I would not go for the convertable ones if you are planning another child any time in the not too far future.

I got my crib on clearance from JC Penny. Not sure on the difference of the stores you listed. Just find a style/color you will want to use for your kids. I used the same crib for all 4 of my boys- I loved it with all of them- my baby is 18 months so now can't wait to get rid of it

Do not forget about using those big plastric bins for under the crib for storage. If you will be using a bedskirt- it will hid them.

I got mine out of the JcPenney catalog & I don't care for it at all - the side rail sticks & is hard to move; it is a little wobbly even with all the bolts tightened up real good. My in-laws bought all our baby furniture for us.

I used my sisters hand me down.. There is a 800 # listed on the bottom board that holds the mattress.. Call it.. They will tell you anything you want to know.. I ordered new plastic pieces for the railings. They get chewed sometimes..

I also bought a new mattress. That was my big thing. I wanted a new one, I got a middle of the line one, about $80. I bought a mattress cover for it also.

Both of my girls used it and it has been passed on again.

A new crib wasn't the 'important thing' for me. As long as it was safe. The mattress was. I invested in bedroom furniture when they outgrew the crib.

If Im correct January is usually Baby sales.. Toy's R Us, Sears, Penny's

I agree with Happymom's advice about convertible cribs. We were also told to make sure you could lower the siderail with one hand as you will be holding the baby etc.. with the other. And don't put the crib together in the middle of your living room floor unless you are absolutely certain it will fit through the doorway after you have put it together!!! We did this and ended up taking the darn thing apart right away and putting back together again. We became were just so excited to put it together!!!

I'm not a big fan of convertible cribs either. We just stuck with a regular crib and paid about $250 for one at Burlington Coat Factory. I have no real complaints except that I never really did figure out an easy way to lower the side while holding the baby. As a result I've gotten used to not doing it at all (I just stand on my tip toes and lower the baby down). We also totally forgot to raise the mattress with our second and kept it on the lowest setting the whole time.
