My cousin is pregnant with her first baby, she has two step kids already, she got married last July, she's only 26. We have been so excited, my ds has been the only little kid in the family.`
She went in for her 19 week ultrasound to find out the sex and instead found out that somehting is wrong. The baby has an enlarged bladder, 2-3x normal size, and her fluid is low. There is a blockage in the bladder, so the baby is not contributing to the fluid. They could not tell the sex because it had its legs crossed.
If it is a boy, they will do an inutero surgery and put in a stint to open the flow. This will keep the baby alive until birth and then it will need more surgeries and most likely will have decreased lung capacity and kidney problems. If it is a girl, the baby will die. We're praying for a boy. The fact that they are finding this problem now is not good news, it means this is a worse form of this problem, many times the bladder issue does not appear until after birth. This is a congenital, inherited problem. They also said the baby has a 10% chance of having downs and may have a club foot.
Has anyone experienced this before or known anyone who has? We are just waiting to find out the sex as she meets with specialists, she's at the University of Cincinatti hospital, it's supposed to be good. I just don't know what to think, I'm just sick over this....
