my baby girl started cereal at 5 months, she is now 9 months and eats some table food and some gerber graduates

Don't feel lazy! That is a perfectly good time to start. And aren't they less likely to develope food allergies, the longer you wait. 6 months is a good time to start them.

It really depends on the baby. My oldest was eating solids at 4 months and my 4th didn't start until she was 7-8 months because she just wasn't interested until she could feed herself.
