Yes, 4-6 months is what the doctors say. Don't worry if they don't take to it right away. Your breastmilk will still have all the vitamins they need if you child isn't ready. I am sure formula does too, I just don't know for how long. I have heard breasmilk has all the nutrients they need until they are one. I am guessing that formula might not be enough much past 6 months. But I am not a nutritionist.
My 1st 3 were formula fed. And I started them all right around 4 months. I was young, and people who thought you should give them cereal to sleep through the night were pushing me. I actually gave my second child cereal at 3 and a half months. With my 4th child I breastfed, and started her on cereal at 4 months.
I don't beleive in putting cereal in the bottles. If they are ready for cereal, they will be able to swallow it off a spoon.
