for a bad cough that is safe during pregnancy? I have had an awful cough for 3 weeks now and it has gotten worse. I have a dr's appt tomorrow morning, but I was wondering if anyone here had any tried & true suggestions.

This stinks bc although I can deal with a cold, it has lasted so long that I am worried about it turning into bronchitis! also, even though I am pretty much over the morning sickness, anytime i get a bad coughing fit, I end up getting sick!

I have heard of putting vick on the soles of your feet at bedtime and someone also mentioned something about rubbing onions on your chest??? that sounds a little too much for me, but if I get desperate I might just try anything as long as it is safe for my baby!

Thanks!!!

I did the vicks thing just the other night with my dd and it worked awsome for her. I did it for me also the next night since we must both have the same thing. And it did work but not as long for me. Give it a try
I got sick with I was prego and just becaful with the coughing it can make you go into labor. If you are coughing in excess. I had to be given a percription for cough syrup when I was 5 months prego.

Check with your OBGyn first, but I was told during my second pregnancy that Robitussin was safe to take for a cough. Good luck!

I was going to post the honey tip too. When I was in high school, I carried around a jar of honey and a spoon when I was sick and it worked wonders. And it's totally safe during pregnancy too.

I heard this on the news last week too. Here is an article about it.

if your throat is irritated, gargle w/warm salt water or coke. put some vicks on your neck (especially at bedtime). i also have those sudacare strips that you plug into the wall (many different companies are also making these now).they are wonderful. biggest thing, just keep blowing your nose. even when you don't think that you have to, do it.

Thanks for the great advice! Last night I tried the vicks on my feet & chest and I also ate some honey right before going to sleep. I slept through the night until DH alarm went off at 4am then I started to cough again. Also, the dr told me that it is ok to take robitussin so I am going to take that for when I am at work & can't be coughing all over the place.

THANKS!!!
