My husband's term not mine.

Logan's eye is gooy! We've all been sick though he's been the healthy one. But today when he awoke from his morning nap his eye was a little gooy which I cleaned with a warm wet washcloth. Then this afternoon when he awoke it was really bad. I've called the nurse on duty but no one has called me back yet.

We read online that it might be infected .

Any thoughts or suggestions?

It's probably pink eye. That's what usually makes a child's eye goopy. You'll need to call someone and get antibiotics for it. By the way.....it's VERY contagious, so make sure you're washing you hands well and disposing of anything in contact with his eye. HTH

It could be pink eye but he could just have a little cold in his eye too. Both my boys have had colds.....runny nose, cough and etc.....then they both got runny goo eyes too. Ask him if his eyes itch.....my boys eyes did not itch but they did get gunky and stuck together. Riley's got a little sore because he was rubbing them but they didn't itch at all. After a couple days it cleared up.

oops is Logan just a little baby?? If he is i guess you can't really ask him if his eyes itch......
He could also have a clogged tear duct.....

Maybe it could also be a blocked tear duct. My dd2 used to get something simliar. I had to take my pinky and massge the corner of her eye because she had a blocked tear duct. Her eye would water and also be gooey.

HTH.

When my daughter was an infant, she would always get a "goo eye" with an ear infection. She never had any other complaints, so when I saw the goopy eye, I'd take her to the doctor.

my dd had pink eye as a baby. It never got pink just gooey. I took her to the ped. and they gave her drops and said pink eye is basically a cold in the eye but it is contagious. Sometimes the ped. will call in a prescription without you needing to bring in the child. if it's thick gooey and kinda yellowish it's most likely pink eye.

Thanks ... the nurse finally called back (evidently mine isn't the only sick kid out there ) and she said I would probably want to take him in tomorrow. She said doctors like to look at these things because it can be so many different things. Which is a bummer because I'm sure the local office isn't open and that means a 40 mile drive to the other office which is only open until noon. So I have to call first thing and get an appointment. Oh well, at least we have the Subaru running again! Looks like I'll need it tomorrow!

Thanks again!

My son had blocked tear ducts in his eyes when he was an infant till he was about 10 months old. We too had to massage his ducts and at one point they even considered "probing" his tear ducts to open them up more. (Common procedure apparently) Lucky for us they cleared up on their own.

I know this may sound strange but it usually works. If you are breastfeeding squirt some breastmilk in his eye, the antibodies get rid of the goop. It worked for my baby. He hasn't had goopy eye in about 1 1/2 months, he is almost 3 months.
