Any tricks of the trade to get a 6 month old to take his liquid medicine? His eyes are clearing up so I know I'm getting some of it down but he spits a lot of it back up. I have an eye dropper and I attempted a spoon -- it is debatable which one he spit the best.

I haven't had too much trouble. I use a dropper and squirt little bits into the back cheek area. that way there really isn't enough at once for him to manuever out with his tongue. At the end I have a pacifier ready to kinda stick in and that gets him to actually swallow what ever is left in his mouth. doing it the little by little keeps him more relaxed and he is less likely to spit up any later.

and also if you're bottle feeding and he normally finishes an entire bottle, you could always just mix it in. Just be sure that he drinks the whole thing so that you know he's getting all of the medicine.

This sounds crude but it is what I do to get the job done. We once had to take Lilly to the ER because of her high fever and refusual to take medicine. The nurse showed me how to make sure it goes down.

Lay him on the floor.
Put his arms down next to his body.
Straddle his shoulders.
Pin his arms against his body with your legs.
Squeeze his cheeks.
Shoot the medicine into the side of his cheek with a syringe.
Only give him a tiny bit at a time if he tries to spit it out.
If that doesn't work, hold his nose while you are putting the medicine in.

If you can hold him down with one arm and give the medicine with the other that is ideal but my girls would not hold still and I'd have to pin them down.... ugg!!

Good luck !!

Put the medicine in just the nipple of the bottle and had him drink it out of there.

Oh this should make me a popular mommy! I'll try this tonight and we'll see how it goes.

I am nursing so the bottle doesn't work. I even tried spoon feeding but that didn't fly. I briefly thought about mixing it in his cereal but he only started eating solids again this morning. And now he is cranky

Needless to say, I don't have any problems with them taking medication now. If they are giving me a hard time I threaten to use the syringe. It won't work for Logan but I always offer a small candy or treat for taking medicine.. since it tastes so nasty.
