This is one of the biggest complaints I hear from young moms - "S/he doesn't like to ride in the carseat!"

Have you found any tips/tricks for making car rides more enjoyable?

We have one of those mirrors that you put on the headrest. I think it's called "Bear-View Mirror" or something. She likes to look at it and even though I don't think she can see me, it helps for me to be able to see her and know that she's ok even if she's screaming her head off.

Yeah, the mirror works for me - I can usually talk to her if she gets fussy, or make her laugh Other than that, toys don't work right now because she ends up throwing them and I can't get to them while driving!

Ok maybe I'm just lucky but my kids loved riding in their carseats. Yeah they screamed when we would put them in, but once we got moving they were fine. I never gave them anything in the car when they were little. Maybe just talking (dh and I always talk alot when we're in the car) and we listen to the radio. My sister on the other hand had always given her dd toys and stuff when she took her some where and now she's such a pain to ride with in the car b/c she constaintly has to have some to play with when she's in the car where my girls are perfectly happy singing with the radio or watching out the window. Just my two cents.

Kinsley loves to ride as long as we are going...when we're stopped and she's in her seat she's not as happy. But I do have those toys that have chimes in them that can clip to the handle or canopy and she loves to play with them.

I was told by the police officer who installed my car seat that too many things in a car can just become projectiles into the baby's head in the event of an accident. Even a pen moving at 65 miles an hour can do a lot of damage. So whatever it is you use, keep them secure.

My kids all loved riding in the car too!! They always felt secure in the infant seats and would sometimes sleep in them in the house too.

My dd didn't mind the carseat, unless we had to stop. I also had a mirror for her and it had a remote control button. I would push the button and the fabric around the mirror had lights and music to sooth her. This kept my hands in the front seat and her safe and happy.

DS#1 has always loved the car! now ds#2 is a different story. the only thing that has worked for him is our dvd player. we have a dual screen. each screen is attatched to a headrest and i pop in one of their movies and we have a smooth ride. although within 10 minutes of the ride ds#1 is almost always asleep at least ds#2 is entertained. it took a full year to figure this one out lol! funny thing is we don't watch much tv when we are home

I do have the bear-mirror attached to the headrest for my own peace of mind.

When we switched from the carrier-base combo to a convertible seat all of a sudden DS hates being in the car. He was just so used to that carrier. I don't like a lot of toys sitting around him. So I have two things...
1) As we get our coats on we sing the car song...I kinda see this as like how you have a routine to get them into bed. Keeps him calm and smiling with the funny voices I do and he's not so surprised to be planted in the dreaded carseat.
2) I keep one toy in the car. It's a small rattle and it's not really to keep him occupied as much as to give him something to hold. Maybe it's comforting to have that little grasp on something solid.
