My husband and I have 2 children, ages 4 and 6. DH had a vasectomy when our youngest was only about 3 months old, but now we are regretting that decision and wonder about vasectomy reversals. I've done some research and there is a doctor in Oklahoma, Dr. David Wilson, who is reportedly very good at what he does... and the best part is that he only charges $1500!!

I will be 36 this July, so one of my worries about another pregnancy is my age. I know 36 isn't old, but I always hear so much about age 35 and the risk factors that increase. I came from a family of 11 children and my mother had her youngest when she was 45! (healthy)

Anyone have experience or heard firsthand stories about reversals? Any thoughts on the age issue? Other than the age, I am healthy. (Ok, I could stand to lose 20lbs! ) We'd love any baby that came our way, however. Any child is a gift from God!!!!!

We were worried this might happen with us. My husband also had the procedure done. I'm 34 (no 36 isn't old!! ) but had 2 c-sections and a difficult 2nd pregnancy. This makes our decision not to try again a little easier. We decided that if we would like another child, we will adopt. There are so many helpless children that need a home.

I've heard success stories about reversals but don't have any personal experience.

You know, I have thought about adopting too. The cost is so astronomical, though! I know there is a tax break, but still the initial cost is there. I agree with what you said, though. There are sooo many needy children out there that need a good home. My husband was adopted, by the way. He now has an adoptive mom, a birth mom, and a step-mom! (all present in his life)

My friend's dh had a reversal. It was done pretty soon after the original vasectomy (long story). It did work but my friend is just about to turn 36 and has not gotten pregnant after trying for almost two years. Her first two children were conceived the first month of trying and the doctors are calling her infertility unexplained. She's doing something this month, I think artificial insemination, so hopefully that does the trick.

I wouldn't worry too much about your age. Of course there are greater risks but the majority of women have a great outcome. It does often get harder to conceive but that varies so much.

You are very lucky to have found someone to do the reversal so cheaply. I think my friend paid around $10K.

Boy, it sounds like your friend and her DH sure are going through a rough time. I feel so bad for them!

I did some browsing this past month on vasectomy reversal message boards and came up with Dr. Wilson's info. BTW, here is his link for anyone who is curious:

We are still undecided, though. It's a very big decision to make.....

My dh had a vasectomy right after our 3rd child was born. 3 years later our only son was killed in an accident. We wanted more kids and had the reversal done. We now have 4 more little boys!!! They were all born in my 30's. I was nearly 39 when the youngest was born. It was much harder being pregnant at that age then in my 20s, but they are sooooo worth it!!! Of course, I have a grandson who is only 15 month younger than my youngest, but such is life!

Oh my goodness... your post gave me chills. That's both the saddest and the most touching thing I have heard all week. Thank you for sharing that with me. It really gives me the perspective I needed.
