Well My nephew now has jaundice. He has to be checked agian on Friday and if they are up still He will have to get a biliblanket. poor guy! He also has gone from being born at 8lbs 7 oz onTuesday to 7lbs 12 oz today! So that is more than 11 % of His body weight! Not too good. MY SIL went and rented a pump and hope to get that straightened out. She has a weight check scheduled for Saturday! This is not good news and hopfully it will resolve rela wuick! Her first son had a weight loss from 2 months to 4 months, Failure to Thrive. So scary! WE hope she is able to pull it off Bf cause that is what She wants to do but bottle feeding would rock too cause then I could feed the baby!!! SOrry! I just can't help myself. Anyway if you could keep Him in your prayers I would appreciate it! Thanks

My ds also had jaundice and they told me to give him some supplemental formula for a few days. I did that until his jaundice was gone. I still went on to breastfeed him until he was 2!! So I think if she has to give him a little now until he gets over this she can still breastfeed. HTH and hope he gets better soon.

Hope he bounces back soon. Both my boys had some issues with jaundice at birth, although neither required any more treatment then frequent feedings and natural sunlight (they were close to readmitting my oldest though). It's such a scary thing! I'll be praying for him.

My youngest son had jaundice and I had to stop breastfeeding. It was supposed to be 48 hours but ended up lasting a week. It was three days after he was born (when my milk was coming in) till he was 10 days old. I continued to breastfeed for about 2 months but didn't have enough milk and I stopped. I'm still kicking myself for not demanding support from all the services that were out there. Tell her to talk to a lactation consultant to help her.

my daughter had to stay in the hospital longer due to jaundice they also offer home photo therapy now.. we had to have it for a few weeks.. and go in for color checks.. the only thing I can stress is pushing milk/formula.... I supplemented because it was more important for me to get the belly rubin counts down and comcentrate on breast feeding later. I just pumped all the time to have enougth for when she was done with the therapy. HTH

I do not know how He is we have not been able to get a hold of them. But Friday His counts had gone from 11.8 to 11.5 so that is good. He was getting pricked again yesterday! Have no clue about his weight! I am supposed to have them over for dinner so we will see what happens!!!

I'm a HUGE BF advocate, but sometimes (often) you have to supplement at first, especially w/big babies or those with health issues. I had to supplement my second because she has blood sugar issues, and my first because he was just plain hungry before the milk came in. If possible, it is still humungously important to keep breastfeeding along w/ the formula because the colostrum is so very important.

Poor thing! I just went through this with dd. The evening that I brought her home from the hospital she went right back because she developed jaundice. It was breast milk induced. I never would have thought that breast milk could do that. So she was on checks a couple times for a week and it finally came back down. But I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers.
