I read in one of my week by week books that you can not wear Conatact Lenses during labor .... IS THIS TRUE!!

If it is true that is crazy, I have NEVER heard of this. I have not even owned a pair of glasses for two years. Should I make an eye doctors appointment and get some glasses. Mind you I am like blind without my glasses........

Anybody have any experience with this?

I wore contacts during both my deliveries. I've never heard of this one before.

For my daughter and her 36 hour labor I changed into my glasses and I think (actually I don't remember) I finally lost those as well. But my husband kept them close by.

For my son, and his labor was progressing much quicker, I had my contacts in. Of course his labor ended in emergency c-section and I had my contacts for that as well.

But whatever your doctor recommends.

I had mine in during my labor/delivery. Obviously you need to bring up with your doctor but I think that there is no reason not to during the normal course of events. The main thing is to make sure that it is in your information in case there is a reason to take them out.

In case there is an emergency, you might have to be sedated. If so, your contacts can fuse to your eyeballs if they aren't removed. Just in case, it might be best to go through labor without contacts in your eyes.

And yes, you should consider getting glasses anyway. I recommend this not so much for the labor and delivery, but for afterwards. You're going to be having to get up and down several times from a deep sleep and in the middle of the night. It might be more helpful to be able to reach for your glasses when you need to see. Additionally, your eyes might go through a period where they get drier as your hormones change. You might find yourself having trouble tolerating contacts at certain points.

I wear contacts, but I wear gas perms that you have to take out every night (you can't sleep in gas perms). I voted for comfort over looking good when I gave birth to dd so I had my contacts out and my glasses on.

I completely agree with this. I wear my contacts all day but can't sleep in them so my glasses are a lifesaver in the middle of the night.

I had heard about not wearing contacts, but I totaly forgot about them when I went in to deliver and I don't think anybody asked, If they did then I guess it was OK. (those were two blurry days for me!)
