I am probally the queen of the hospital. I was there two weeks before my son was born via c-section. Make sure you bring some of your own pads. The hospital ones are so big that You could fit your baby on it! and you feel like you are the baby cause it feels like a diaper. But Take them home they make great diaper changing pads. You don't bleed as much with a c-section down there. Another thing you might wanna bring is a couple dvds if your room has a dvd player. The first night you wont be able to do a whole lot. Make sure you fill out the paperwork for the birth cert. and ss number. Just relax.
Make sure you have some diapers yes the hospital gives you some but it isnt a bad idea to have a little stash at home. Don't forget some of your favorite things like pillow blanket for you! Hospital blankets arent that soft. You could always bring some scrapbook stuff to do. I wish I would of been in to scrapbooking when I was in the hospital it would of been a good thing to kick the boredom. Maybe a small gift for your DH. Everything is so centered on you and the baby I think it would be nice to let him know that he is special too. LOL. Make sure you make a list of people to contact too. Maybe set up automatic bill payments so thats one last thing to deal with. Make some meals in advance. If you are using bottles wash and sterilize them and have those ready to go. Thats all I can think of lol.

Oh and remember that anything that is opened in your room (bag of diapers, bag of pads, water bottles, whatever) you have paid for so take whatever is left over. They can't use anything for another patient if it is opened.

Don't forget to put hair ties in your bag! If your normally a contact wearer, take extra contacts and a pair of glasses. Defiently a pillow for you. If Dh is staying with you, make sure you have a pillow and blanket for him.

I just packed DD's outfit in my bag and threw in a diaper in there (I didn't realize how many the hospital gave you!) Old Navy yoga pants are the best! I think that's all I wore for the first few days. You can roll them down from your insision and they are sooo comfey. Don't try going home all glamerous. Just be comfortable.

I thought of another! Make sure they check your baby for CHD and other heart defects! You should pm TommysMommy for the exact names and tests and stuff!

Instead, we have a very cushie La-Z-Boy rocker / recliner. That chair has been used by almost every baby - DD, grandchildren, friends - that have come to our house. Usually the baby falls asleep on my shoulder or lap but will wake up immediately if I try to put him/her down in the crib. When this happens, I usually end up sleeping in the recliner with baby on my chest. The rocker / recliner is wonderful for when baby is sick. It is also great when I'm sick since reclining is much more comfortable than laying in bed. Our recliner has big over-stuffed arms. While I don't like the look of any recliner, those arms are actually pillows for baby, especially as they grow older and no longer fit comfortably in your arms.

Since you haven't bought your chair yet, I'm throwing the idea out there.
I bought the Dutailier one for $700 and that is the worst thing I have bought. Check if you can borrow one from your friends. The store I bought would not take it back - so check the return policy before you buy.

And, enjoy time with our baby.

Keep some big bath towels in the car - in case your water breaks you don't want your car seat to soak them.

All the best.

And, have you fitted your car seat? - We got it checked it by the local fire department personnel too.
