When Bob was 9 months old, I gave him a sippy cup and no more bottle. He didn't care. He would drink out of the sippy cup and now a regular cup with no problems.

James is 13 months old and would refuse a cup for a long time. In the past couple months I have tried to give him a cup and he would cry and whine until I gave him a bottle. I know the problem was me. I was giving in, I was being a push-over. The problem was ME. I know this.

So yesterday my husband said we were giving him a sippy cup and no bottle. He will drink when he is thirsty and I need to be tough.

I'm not going to lie to you. It was hard. I could not have done it if dh wasn't here. I would have broke down.

He's been a little whiny today and I wanted so badly to give him a bottle. I tried holding him and cuddling with him and he just pushed me away. He keeps hanging out in the kitchen where he thinks his bottles are, but I hid them in the closet so they wouldn't be easy for me to give out, haha. He did drink a full cup of milk at breakfast, though.

We're going to make it...I am going to make it, haha, I just can't believe how difficult this has been with him. He needs a lot more encouragement with things than Bob did.

It is hard sometimes to get them to that next stage. I have to admit, I'm not very good at it. I figure that is part of the reason both of my kids were / are such bad sleepers!

I think you should throw out the bottles. That made it easier for us. If you are saving them for future babies, just throw out the nipples, lol. You will make it, he will forget about them in a week or so, until he sees one on tv or withanother baby. In that case tell him what a big boy he is and that only little babies take bottles. YOU CAN DO IT!

If it makes you feel any better... I AM THE WORST. My 27 month old still gets a night bottle. I can't take the screaming. It is her routine, she drinks her milk, brushes her teeth, has a story and goes to bed. It is more about the routine than anything. By the end of the day, I'm too tired to fight. Btw, my oldest willingly gave up her sippy cup. No problems. She made it easy for me.

You are doing a great job!!
