On Sunday, DS (11 months) figured out how to spit food out of his mouth. He went from being easy, eat-everything-we-give-him to Mr. Super-Picky, literally overnight. This is very irritating. He pretty much refused everything we had for dinner tonight, which is all stuff he would have eaten no problem last week. I do not want to get into any kind of habit of cooking him separate meals.

I know this is a common problem that almost every American mom faces, but what about those in other countries where food is not so plentiful? How do they teach their babies to eat what's there because that's it?

I hope this is a really short phase he's going through.

My DD is also 11 months old and she spits or starts throwing food all around. Once she starts doing that I stop offering her food and let her go play. After an hour or so, she is offered the same food and if she still plays with it - I give her cheerios or toast or Yogurt - these are my standby foods.

I have come to the level that if she is hungry, she will eat. I am also happy for she takes one good meal a day.

Enjoy every moment - I feel my DD is growing tooooo fast.

Dd is 8 mos and doing the same thing. We can't get her to stop. When I give her a bite of something, I hold the spoon over her mouth to keep it from spraying all over the place, and this helps a little in deterring the spitting. Finger foods seem to please her if she's just not taking the spoon foods. At least that way I know something's getting in her belly.

My youngest drove me crazy with spitting food out. I gave her what she would eat and tried not to stress about it. She had a sensitive gag reflex so I didn't have many options. Good luck and try not to worry too much.
