You guys, I am having such a hard time with this! Jamie was whinier than any other time I have seen either of my two kids for the last couple days. Finally, Monday night I gave him half a bottle of water. Yesterday he had more bottles and today I haven't even attempted to give him a sippy cup.

He only had 2 wet diapers on Monday, and I don't want him getting dehydrated. He just won't drink from the sippy cup. He throws it and cries when I give it to him. I even have tried to put it in his mouth so he knows what it is for. I have used the soft spout and the hard spout. I think the cup we use is too difficult for him to suck from. We are going to town next Friday, so I hope to get a different sippy cup to try.

I don't know why it is so difficult with him and wasn't even a blip in the screen with Bob. Reading the other posts about this topic, I feel a lot better about it, but I really want to get rid of the bottles!

Does anyone have any tips? Do you have any sippy cup recommendations?

Have you tried using a cup that has a straw? It would give him more control. Perhaps he needs to break the habit of tipping the cup back like he would a bottle.

I was going to suggest a straw sippy as well. Some kids find those much easier to switch to. Good luck.

Which sippy's are you using????

With both the girls, I used the Nuby Soft Spout ones, and they worked GREAT.

I am using Gerber--we have two styles of cups and the lids fit on both styles. I have tried both styles with both lids, one has a soft spout the other is a hard spout. I wonder if it's the plug that keeps it spill proof that is difficult for Jamie to suck the milk out.

It could be..... Walmart carry's the Nuby soft spouts, they have no plug in them, they're no spill, i'd head out and look for them and try those see if they work...

Here's what they look like:

I would suggest taking the plug out of the sippy cups first, before you go and buy more. The sucking of a sippy cup is alot harder than the sucking of a bottle.

I got my daughter off the bottle with a sippy cup from Gerber. It is called the transitional cup. It has a blue soft square tip and it has handles on each side. You can either have it with the handles or not. The only thing is that my daughter started chewing on the spout and making a big whole in it so after we went thru alot of cups I just took it away from her.

I did think about that, too. I just didn't want milk, water or juice all over. I think I will try it this afternoon and see if he drinks out of it or just plays.

I do understand not wanting milk all over can you give it to him in his highchair maybe? (because it will LEAK). But that was the only way my son would drink out of a sippy cup. I have even tried the sucking it (not comfortable to me). GOOD LUCK with it.. Keeps us updated on you lil DS.
