I guess this qualifies as a spin off....
Another thread on here is about getting you child off the bottle and on to a sippy cup. When someone mentioned taking the valve off (or using the old fasioned kind that leak all over) there was a concern about milk/juice getting all over. My first thought was "why does it matter if it gets all over the highchair or clothes, they both wash". My children (all 3 of them) were only allowed to eat or drink in the chairs in the kitchen or dining table. it never even crossed my mind to allow them to wonder with a cup with anything but water. I would think that cups all over the house would be stinky and attracting all sorts of "things"...I can't even imagine an old milk cup found laying around. Even worse is in the car!

Do most people have kids running around withfood and drink everywhere???

my dd never did and she still does not. She has a little table in the kitchen and has her drink there.

At my SIL house it is a diff story, food and drinks everywhere. Old milk in sippy cups ( in her car ) it is so gross! I once found cheese behind the bed after they stayed. nasty.

My younger kids take their sippy cups around the house with them. We've never had a problem. We don't have old cups and food lying around the house. Once they move on to "big kid" cups, they can only have them at the table as they are a spill risk. My kids also take their sippy cups, and the older ones water bottles, in the car when we're going somewhere. They also take and eat snacks in the car. Again, haven't had a problem and don't have old cups or food in there either.

You don't have a problem cause you have good kids and you must have trained them right!

ds can have a straw cup with water out in the house. He is good about not dripping it everywhere. Every night at bedtime, the cup is located and washed, I even think old water cups laying around is gross.
He doesn't really drink juice and milk is at meals at the table, we're starting to use a regular cup for milk about half the time (as long as I'm there with him the whole time). I find he takes bigger gulps and I don't want him sucking the milk through his teeth. We are already starting to phase out sippy cups altogether.

ETA: The only food he doesn't eat seated at the table is afternoon snack, which is crackers and a slice of cheese. Often it is eaten on his little table or outside. Occasionally, he has a snack in the car, but I clean the car seat cover often, I can't stand stuck on cereal bar, yuck. Plus, he takes the straw water cup in the car, but it doesn't spill and we always bring it in. Milk in the car would be gross.

No, I think it's poor hygene to let children run around with food or drinks. I do not allow food in the bedrooms either for this reason. On occasion I will allow a bowl of popcorn in the living room for movie night.
