I have to go for a 32w u/s at the hospital where i had my nuchal tranlucency stuff (down's and other tests) done. Seems baby was TOO squirmy for dr to get good measurements. She thought he may be measuring smaller than he should (about 27.5W) so I am PANICKED of course. I have to go for a biophysical profile, est. fetalweight, size and dates due to my advanced maternal age. Lovely. But when I spoke to dr., she said she just wants good measurements and their machines r more precise. Her med asst. said if she was that concerned she would have send me right over to the hosp. to have it done. Any thoughts would be VERy helpful.
Thanks,
Danette

Don't worry, the baby was probably just squirmy like they said.

Not good to hear that all your babies were small but good for me to know.....all we want want is a healthy baby. I was misdiagnosed with terminal cancer last yr. (thank God it is 'only' a treatable cancer syndrome) and I miscarried, so this baby is a true blessing.

I would let them do the indepth ultasounds and measurements. Be more concerned about the developmental milestones than the actual size. I know it is hard, but try not to worry until you have a real reason to worry.

First off stay calm, second remember that 99% of sonos measuring weight are off by a lb or 2 up or down in size. They will say oh your babies big and then when it comes out its smaller than they said. Those are only gestimates. If they baby was moving around alot thats a good reason to have another sono. I had bio physicals done every 2 weeks from 20 weeks on due to my son having kidney problems. They are just a more in depth sono that they take more time on instead of a 5 minute one. Dont be alarmed until you have a reason to.

those things are not always right, I was told I was having about an 8 pounder and ended up having a 5 pounder...which was okay with me The worst trouble we had was finding clothes to fit her, she even swam in preemie clothes for a while, she is now 18 months and is perfectly healthy, she's in the middle of all the weight and height charts and has passed her milestones!
I am sure everything is going to be fine!! Good luck with your pregnancy and keep us posted!

I agree they are only 'guess-timates'. For months they told dh and I that our baby was 'measuring big' for his age. And from the beginning dh and I told Them they had their dates wrong. They fluffed us off, BUT I had ds one month early - he was almost 6 lbs (not big) And my midwife admitted that he was full term, they must have gotten the dates wrong ( um, yeah, what were we telling you for seven months? )

You'll be fine. Medicine is an art, not a science. You'll be fine!!
