Hi everyone,

Just wondering how many of you (or know someone who did) had children after the age of 40 and how long it took you to get pregnant?

Thanks,
Andrea

I had my last at 39, but I know lots of people who had children after 40. Most of them had no trouble getting pregnant.

I married at 20, had my first at 38, conceived my second at 42, having her two months after I turned 43. He's 7, almost 8, she's 2 1/2.

We didn't really say "hey, we're trying for this"...we just left the door open and saw what happened, as we had friends with fertility issues. Both were pleasant surprises. #2 was actually a complete surprise. I had no idea, and went to do a medical study on insomnia to find a solution, but to earn a few bucks. They screen for pregnancy routinely. My jaw dropped to the floor as I came out of the bathroom. I just didn't sense it. I did have 3 miscarriages, two before the first, and one before the second. Guardian angels. The Dr. put me on progestin (or was it progesterone? I'm not sure) to help maintain the successful pregnancies due to the miscarriages.

Hi Andrea,
I will start off by saying that I don't know anybody else like me in this situation, but here goes: I got married for the second time in August 2006 at age 42. My dh and I both wanted to TTC but I was very skeptical. Lo and behold, just a little over one month later (and just after my 43rd birthday), I was pregnant. I am now the mom of a very normal, happy 9 month old son. What's more, we are now in the process of TTC a sibling for him and I am 44 years old now. I will let you know how that goes because I am really doubtful that we could get that lucky twice. Best of luck to you in your efforts.
