My almost 10 month old for atleast the last month or so has been ripping the hair out of her head! She would grab at her hair before when shes throwing a fit for not getting her way, we would always try to grab her hands and hold them or pull them away from her hair but then I would notice hair in her hands every now and then. Now her hair has actually thinned out on the sides!! Shes not acting as if it hurts her to pull her hair out but this can not be normal I've never heard of this. Has anyone else had this problem is it a phase I dont know whats going on I dont know how to help my baby. Right now she has more teeth cutting thru and shes been really cranky the babysitter noticed her hair pulling and asked me about it. Im just not sure. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

What about having her wear hats so she can't pull her hair? Maybe she's just so upset that the pain of tearing her hair out doesn't phase her OR maybe the roots of baby hair are not as strong as an adults so it's not as painful to tear it out?

She does react to other painful things right?

This could just be her way to get her aggression out when she's angry. My son did this little shake thing when he was upset.

I think i'd mention it at her next well baby appointment.

Sorry i just did more rambling than helping.....but i do care!!!

Well shes normally already crying when she pulled her hair out sooo I dont know if shes feeling it. She does react to painful things though scary I remember watching a 20/20 or Dateline segment on a little girl who could not feel pain ohh I felt for those parents! When my LO was even younger though she use to hit herself in her head when she was fustrated or tired, but I remember reading how that was normal and it was her way of soothing herself But its escalated to her hair, and its really thinned out I dont know if this is a phase or whats going on.
