DH's cousin is having a baby in April. They are catholic and we are wondering at about what age do Catholics do this?

I was baptized Catholic and I was 3 weeks old when my parents had me baptized. I'm not sure there is a set time/age that the Catholic religion follows. I know my nieces who were also baptized Catholic were about 5 weeks old each. HTH!

DS was baptized when he was 2-3 weeks old. There is no set age to be baptized.

Usually within the first month or two. Depends - some churches do all baptisms once a month or something like that.

My kids were a few months old by the time I got to getting them baptized. LOL! It really just depends. It's usually within the first 3 to 4 months.

Generally, the sooner the better. I waited until mine were about 2 1/2 to 3 months only because it's a big deal and therefore a big party and I wanted them to be older to be exposed to that many people at one time.

Our priest said they wouldn't baptize a child that was five or older. Don't know if it's just that parrish or the Catholic church in general. My older two were 2 & 4 when we finally had them christened! But most do have it done shortly after birth.

My sisters and I were all baptized at 3 years old. Most people around here do it when their babies are very young, though. I wonder why they wouldn't do it over age 5? That seems strange to me. I could understand that it would be important for it to be a conscious choice for older children, but 5 years old?
