my dh and I are going to try for #2 this year... or should I say #2 and #3. We would love twins! I know its twice the work but with my first son I also had my relatives son (they were 2 weeks apart) full time so I know we could handle it. I dont know if a dr. would help us concieve twins (fertility drugs etc.) because we can get pregnant on our own. Anyone have any suggestions?

Good Luck I wish you all the best of luck. I can't imagine TTC twins and actually getting preg. with twins. Oh how I'd feel the Lord's presence in our home!! :D

Enjoy the process and research. Many blessings your way.

As a mom of twins I had to respond. While you may very well be able to take care of two babies, have you really looked into the higher risk of carrying two babies, both for you and the babies? A great majority of twin pregnancies require weeks of bed rest (I did 6 weeks, I know others who have done 15-20). How would you do that and care for your current child? Complications are also more common...preeclampsia, preterm labor, preemie babies who require nicu time, not to mention post-partum cardiomyopathy (heart failure caused by pregnancy, I had this too and thought I was going to die of heart failure when my babies were only weeks old!)

Having two babies to love is wonderful but would I willingly go through another twin pregnancy when I already had children? I don't think it would be worth the sacrifices you and your family would have to make.

Just another point of view from someone who has been there and done that.

I too have twins (fraternal boys), they were my 6th and 7th boys......twins are a joy, but a lot of work too! Caring for 2 babies 24/7 is a big deal, and very stressful......in your case, one baby went home at the end of the day. You did not have 2 sick children, 2 children up all night (or alternating times awake), 2 nighttime baths, 2 potty training, 2 throwing up, 2 needing to be feed and held at the exact same times.

I did not have many of the other issues that the PP had, but it was a struggle (not being able to get out of a chair, not being able to roll over in bed, etc). I was taken off of work at 34 weeks and did not receive pay the entire time that I was off of work (financial worries). I did deliver at 36 weeks, and both of my twins receive therapies (twin a receives speech and developmental therapies, and twin b receives swim therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and developmental therapy)

I have never heard of a doctor giving fertility meds to someone just so they could have twins.......that doctor would have a lot of explaining to do, maybe even lose their license.....fertility meds are for those women that have trouble getting pregnant or have other issues, not just the "want" of having twins. Not to mention that just because a woman takes fertility meds, they WILL have twins, it only gives a chance of twins, not a guarantee.....IF YOU DID FIND A DOCTOR TO GIVE YOU THE MEDS, what would happen if you only got pregnant with one child, what if you didn't get your "dream twins".....what if you got twins and they had major problems? What then?

In a different post you say that your son is only 5 weeks old! How can you say that you know what it is like to care for 2 babies at once...you say that your relatives baby and yours are 2 weeks apart (so is one 7 weeks and one 5 weeks, or is one 3 weeks and one 5 weeks?) If your other post is correct, you most likely have no idea what it is like to care for 2 babies at once, since at those ages babies sleep most of the time. When they are awake, they have a bottle or a breast and go right back to sleep.

fertility drugs are a good way. My friend is not able to get pregnant on her own and they had fertility treatments and they have 2 year old twins now!

Good luck!

Best wishes on TTC your next baby (ies). I had twins and was on partial bed rest at 6 months. I didn't have any children at the time so was able to follow my doctor's advice. It would have been difficult to do with a little one around.

I also have twins, fraternal boys who will be 4 in aprox. 16 min.!!! We conceived them while I was taking Clomid, a low dose fertility drug, we were told we just had a 6% chance of having twins, well, we got 'em!!!

I went on partial bed rest at 6 months due to high blood pressure. I was in and out of the hospital and put on full bedrest and twice a week non stress tests. Our hospital is a level 1 which means they don't care for babies born before 36 weeks. At 32 weeks exactly I was transferred by ambulance 1.5 hrs. away to a level 3 which has a full NICU. I was in that hospital for a week before I delivered via emergency c-section at 33 weeks.

I was given steroid shots to develop their lungs and was put on AWFUL DRUGS. I couldn't see or anything with the drugs they had me on. My blood pressure was awful and I was getting pulminary edima, I was in sad shape.

My babies were born weighing 4.10 and 3.5 spent 28 long days in the NICU in that hospital so far from home. It was awful being discharged from the hospital without our babies.

We also had our daughter, she basically moved in with my dad and stepmom while I was in the hospital. It was a rough, rough, road. Having babies in the NICU is HARD!!!

Like I said they will turn 4 yrs. old very shortly. They are still small for their age, walked late, talked late and still aren't potty trained. But are healthy little boys

I would rethink trying to conceive twins through drugs etc. when you can get pg. on your own. It IS double the blessings, joy, kisses, hugs, etc. but it IS a lot of work. I don't know of any doc. that would help you purposely concieve twins.

I don't mean to sound harsh or rude, I'm just pointing out the facts. Not all twin pregnancies result in premature babies or complications. I just never heard of thinking of asking a dr. to help a couple conceive twins before.

I have to agree with some others here- good luck to you...BUT- I also have twins and it's like 100% more stressful at times. People have no idea what so ever what it really means to have twins, unless they've had them...they never want to sleep at the same time, at first they won't eat at the same time and with other children at home, everyone goes through a huge emotional roller coaster and the kids are all effected. Well worth the extra work and we love them like crazy, but there are so many things that people don't think about when it comes to having twins...and with a 5 week old at home, you're just getting started. When I was pregnant with the twins, we were worried all the time about all the problems that could happen...it's a higher risk pregnancy and the babies are more prone to health issues.
I, too, doubt that any Dr. would give a person fertility meds to get preg with multiples...a multiples pregnancy can (and has in a lot of cases) done a lot more harm than good- children born premature that have health issues for the rest of their lives...not a good thing.
I know there are a TON of great stories about multiples- and mine is one of them thank the LORD!!!! But, in my "multiples moms" group there are a lot of heart breaking ones as well...

Thanks for all the info ladies its very helpful. My son was born a month early as it is so that preterm labor problem really has me rethinking. I may try the old wivestale of eating sweet potatoes to help conceive twins lol but I think I'll stay away from fertility drugs.
