Poor DS is still sick. I took him to the doctor on Monday morning (he threw up again earlier that morning!), and he said it seems like it is just a stomach virus, and not something wrong with his digestion, because of the accompanying diarrhea. Well, that afternoon the diarrhea got worse. All I did Tuesday was change his diapers. He still won't eat hardly anything... he weighs less than he did 2 months ago!

Still no better today. In fact, he woke up in the middle of the night with another runny diaper, and now he has flaming diaper rash to boot. I cleaned him up and brought him downstairs to offer him something to drink, and he refused, then puked all over my shoulder!!! He did go right back to sleep, but he wakes up really early now because of the early sunrise and because DH gets up at 5:30 for work. He went back to sleep at 7:30 (he's still sleeping now), but not before two more runny poops!! The ONLY good thing about it is that, since he's not eating much, not too much comes out at a time, so it is usually contained in the diaper.

I don't know what else I can do for him. I know about the BRAT diet, but that doesn't help if he won't eat, anyway. I was dumbfounded when refused bananas (usually his favorite) AND breastfeeding yesterday. I keep giving him Pedialyte and he will nibble at some dry Cheerios here and there, but it just goes right through him.

Poor little guy! Did the doctor say how long he thought this would go on? I worry so much when my kids are sick, I'd probably be calling back again.

No, he didn't really say. I'm going to give it another day, unless he starts acting really lethargic, or he seems extra dehydrated, or if there's any blood, or what have you. But I will definitely be on the phone first thing tomorrow morning if there is no improvement today.

It might be the nasty virus that is going around. It starts with puking then diarrhea. They keep it for a few day of both then the puking stops and the diarrhea stays for a awhile. If your child doesn't get it from school, they are picking it up in the doctors office. Both of my kids had it and so has most of the kids we know. Funny thing is that the parents are getting it. If your child likes to chew things, I give DD a washcloth soaked in pedalyte or gatorade and have her chew/drink her fluids that way.

He is almost 14 months old. His first episode of morning vomiting happened two weeks ago. Then he was fine for 5 days, and it happened again, followed by an afternoon of diarrhea, more hurling before bed, and then he was fine for about another 5 days. This most recent bout started Sunday morning with lots of vomiting, followed by lots of diarrhea in the afternoon. A couple more pukes here and there since then, but mostly diarrhea. His temp. hasn't been higher than 99.3.

jmo, but it does sound like a virus, which has to run its course.
Be watchful for fever(could signal dehydration) and lethargy, skin rashes.
Its hard to watch your child go through this, but it sounds like youre doing a great job. I am a geriatric nurse, not pediatric, but I know never to totally trust doctors, so if it doesnt seem right to you, get another opinion. Good luck
