Went to the pedia last week for dd 6 months well baby appointment. The pedia told me that dd's head is the size of a 2 months old. Her head was small to begin with anyway but because she favor one side ( her left side ) she got that flat head on that side. She was talking me about a helmet to correct dd's head. See dd right now doesn't have any torticolis but ds did as soon as he was born. We used to see Early Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS not sure if that's what stand for) but eventually ds outgrow the problem and he is okay now. I did lot of stretches and exercises before with ds and now with dd. Since she is turning over and rolling pretty much everywhere majority of the time I find her sleeping on her stomach. She's not laying on her head so much. They want me to have her see a specialist but since we live in an area that doesn't any they refer me to go offpost. Military Tricare will pay for seeing DD but they won't pay for the helmet if they ever come to that and it cost around $3,000 or 2,000 something euros. We will be moving to another military base early July and DH and I already plan to have her evaluated with the EDIS in our new base but that's like two months from now. Should I wait until we move to have evaluated or should I do it now in the German economy? DS before I think was worse than DD now but he outgrow it and I don't know if dd will do the same thing. Its not affecting her developmental at all. She's turning over, learning how to crawl, trying to feed herself and trying to sit up on her own. The only thing that's noticeable its the flat head on her left side. The pedia told me that the brain on that side will not have a room to "grow" because of being flat. Its not that bad I don't think Ds head was way flatter before and now its all gone. One cheek is bigger than the other one.

I didn't have this problem with any of my kids but if I did, I would have gone immediately to have them evaluated. I personally feel that their heads, and therefore their brains, are not something to play around with. Your older child may have grown out of the problem but your DD may have it worse and need more intervention. The sooner, the better is my opinion. What can having her evaluated hurt?

I am a big believer in early intervention. If dr. says it's an issue, then it is an issue. Also, I can't believe she is already 6 months old! I feel like she was just born!

I would go with what the doctor said as well. You could always measure it yourself as well how many times did they measure it? All kids get flat head at somepoint I actually got a letter from the flat head society right after I had noah they were selling a little doughnut for them to sleep on. Good luck

I would do what the doctor said. Maybe waiting a couple months wouldn't make a difference, but you never know. Are you sure Tricare won't pay for at least some of the helmet?

I'd absolutely, positively get her evaluated as quickly as I could get an appointment with someone that was qualified to give me answers and her help if she needs it.

I hope all is well.

*no personal experience or insight since none of my kids ever had a flat part to their head*

I would not worry, but I would get it checked, these things are better off not left, especially when they are growing SO fast.

I know that it seems like a lot of money, but you would not compromise your baby's health for 3000 euros if you had the choice...

she is gorgeous, and what a head full of hair!!!

I am amazed that she is starting to crawl! we gave birth around the same time and Nat is content to just roll everywhere!!

take care
